New Guy Error Code Advice

Just bout my truck a few weeks ago. 2001 short bed, 73000 miles, auto, 4x4. I felt the throttle kick back once on the highway and today I tried to take off from a light and it wouldn't go faster than about 5-10 mph for a min or so then kicked back into full power. I did the key trick for the codes and this is what its reading

These are codes from a edge products file.
PCM
-0720= Low Output Speed Sens RPM above 15 MPH

-1693= DTC Detected in Companion JTEC Mod

ECU
-1693
-0216= Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure

-0234= Turbo Boost limit exceeded

Any experience or advice for these? Is it going to be expensive?
Thanks

P0216 is a VP death code. What's fuel pressure idle and wot? Better start saving for a lift pump and injection pump if you don't have a good lift pump

Idk what my pressure is. I need some gauges. I have been preparing myself mentally for that purchase. Can't afford it right this sec. Of course if I do have to upgrade should I go for stock or the hot rod vp44?

Rather simple lack of use. I've seen a lot of older folk driver truck for years and never really get the boost pressure up to open the wastegate. So it rust shut.

man that's a bummer. go with an SO VP44. they are getting cheaper it seems.

If I didn't know about the key code trick I wouldn't really know all these issues were there. Is it ok to keep driving it like this until I can afford to fix it?

typically the VP won't leave you on the side of the road but it can make for a slow trip home. if the timing cannot find where it needs to be often times it goes to idle, i guess if you had an auto it could be bad if your converter stall could not be met at idle. just drive here till you can't. the VP is bad and it doesn't get much worse. I knew someone that had a 0216 code and drover on it for over a month till they could scrape the funds up for a new pump

ya I thought I found a great deal with it having such low miles. I start a new job on Monday so I should have the money soon

they have combo packages all over the diesel sites for a new VP and an aftermarket lift pump such as an Airdog or Fass. that's the way to go.

My VP went from fine at 65mph to dead stick, drift to the shoulder with no prior warning.
<insert foul language>
All stock, 2000, at somewhere around 240K, 2nd or 3rd lift pump.
Just FYI.

I had the truck scanned by a friend who is a mechanic who does a lot of work on diesels and has one him self and turns out the same as what I learned from the codes I pulled. So I went a head and ordered a fass Titanium 150gph for 2 reasons. First to make sure there is always great flow to the injection pump. Second in hopes that there is some chance the stock injection pump is still usable and wont need to be replaced.

As far as the wastegate goes I ordered a aftermarket actuator from BD Diesel. If for some reason it is actually welded shut, how can I go about fixing that?

Fass titanium 150 is installed and the truck is running better but the rpm needle is still bouncing around when in park so i figure the vp44 might still need to be replaced. I havent resolved the wastegate issue yet. I have air at work with a regulator that i will try to test it outif I get a chance.

Also when I floor it in high gear it down down shift. any ideas what this is?

Ya I was hoping the fass would keep it alive. It's working for now but will probably still new to be replaced but good thing I have a jeep so no worries on getting a tow lol

Little update. I still have had zero death pedal. I finally drove to Oreillys and had my codes erased to see what would return. The overboost came back but the 0216 is still gone which makes me happy. I did a lot of reading today about rpm needle jumping and the only think I found was one guy said it was his fan clutch?

I'm going to pull my turbo fix the wastegate and see if that's why I have no top end speed. I read overboost will cause defueling but I barely pull over 55. I also read of another guy who had similar issues with overboost and bought a boost fooler and it made a huge difference, pulling power, passing speed etc.

If I remember right, when my truck had this issue it was just the crankshaft sensor.

Update

Ok I ended up getting a blue chip vp44 and all the death pedal issues are gone. Starts and drives right away. I still didn't have highway power and still have a stuck wastegate but I bought a used super chip max micro tuner and that has made a world of difference. Way more power and tranny shifts a lot better.
