I dont think they can reflash your truck with this new deal. As long as u dont buy a newer truck i think its march of 09 or newer. And dont get a new ecm. Then you should be fine.

 

i would say they both have a way around it. you can "force a tune" by rolling back the flash. this is why some programmers take longer than others. not because there just slower they are doing more. it will most likely roll back the flash so it is able to force a file:thumbsup:

 

How do you "roll back a flash" if the new ECU's do not have any previous flashes other than the locked one?

 

i got a starscan and have all the flashes that came out saved to the computer. so if anyone needs it im here to help out

Heres a way around, don't take your truck in to dealer. The government is ruining these trucks and ya'll are letting them.

 

Thanks for the info, Casey. Thats what I thought regarding the EGR.
On the other hand, IIRC, the new 2010 C&C would not start once you have run out of emissions 'urea' and shut off the truck. Wonder how many guys get stranded because they forget to leave the cummins running...

I'll hold my horses then as the need for a cummins 6.7 truck is not that dire yet. As my vision regarding her configuration is very clear, I probably won't find any suitable truck waiting for me in the dealers lot anyway.

 

i just unplugged my egr yesterday and it started up fine. it's an 09 but i dont' know what the build date is on it. i'll look when i get home

 

I hope this gets figured out soon. My new truck has a build date of April 2009, and the DPF is just dying to fall off. Maybe I should start shopping for a pre March 2009 ECM.

I'm guessing the new boot loader is just checking the checksum of the loaded calibration, and it just needs to be figured out where it's storing the checksum value so it can be updated along with the tune. There has to be a way around it, or Chrysler would never be able to update the programming themselves.

 

So March or April is the cutoff for the locked ecm's?

 

It was more like May, if I remember it correctly. I'm sure others will chime on on that one.

someone needs to make an OBD2 lock for these trucks so the dealers can't tamper with the ECM

 

Find one out of a wrecked truck at junk yard

 

Hide the actual OBD port and install a dummy so they'll get "Not connected" or smth on Starscan screen

 

I have a Stainless Steel Cable and padlock on my ODB Port with a note stating no software to be installed without vehicle owners permission. Blunt and to the Point!!
