Ok so I have owned a 2nd gen loved it no problems, went to 3rd gen but 6.7 worst truck ever!!! However at time didn't know a lot about trucks! ( still not a lot but more than then!) . Then went to 1st gen still have it , learned about kdp and other issues .

So question is any thing I need to know bout the 07 5.9?
What should I look for ?
What mods are recommended ?

Great truck and motor! I'd check engine hours if I was going to buy another one tomorrow as they commonly spend a lot of time just sitting idle so the millage doesn't reflect the motor wear. I would also go to a manual transmission. My auto trans has been good, my brother had to have his rebuilt at 180k miles.
I would also avoid anything with an upgraded exhaust and any sort of programmer as that is an indication there is quite possible added wear.
Maybe look for one that down't have a fifth wheel/goose neck hitch.
Hope it helps a little! Just my .02

Check for: Blow by (dead rings), cold start it (make sure it hasn't been started for 12 hours or better) and look for smoke (anything blue, white, or excessive black will cost $$$), obviously engine codes & lights, turbo intercooler boot for oil, any physical leaks, engine knocking or pinging sounds can be valve train or push rod issues.

I personally would recommend the G56 manual as well, seems alot more reliable than the autos. If you do get the manual test the clutch for slip and feel hard shift or grinding. Auto watch for sloppy or rammy shifts and bad timing.

I did a lot of research before deciding on the 2006 year, minimal issues it seems.

Best of luck.

I have the edge, runs too hot and not enough torque gets too the ground, I do like the code reader, gauges, and on the fly switching. I would do EFI. Get the aFe pro 10 R intake, lowers egts big time, faster turbo spooling, and way better filtration.

You tell them exactly what you want the truck to do and they make it happen. It is possible to have multiple tunes that are changeable with a dash switch. Most people that know what they are doing will load 1 tune that does what you want. Example: 1800RPM + 40 HP daily driver friendly- 2200RPM + 80HP Tow mode - 2500RPM+ 100HP lead foot mode. This is just an example, EFI Is an art and these shops that do it all have their own secrets and tricks to make a great tune.
