Has anyone installed the Dodge version "Jake" brake?

I downloaded the instructions and the whole thing looks like something I can do except the part about plugging into the ECM and if you do it wrong your screwed.

How do you know which is #39 and which is #42??

So anyways has anyone had the dealer do it or are there any techs here who know what they charge to do it?

I can order the brake kit, including belt online.

Just trying to get all my ducks in a row here since it looks like I may be the owner of a (new to me ) 2007 5.9 3500 mega cab 4wd.

The wife likes it too much to let it go. Funny thing is she'll never drive it.:confused013:

The ECM part is the easy part. The instructions should tell you the pin out. If not look at Pac brakes instructions they show a picture I believe. As well when you undo the allen bolts on the back side of the connector block it has numbers next to the pins. Best to push the plugs from the backside out the front with a thin piece of haywire or something. The hardest part of the brake install was getting the new exhaust elbow lined up with the turbo and exhaust pipe and have it not leak. I will try to save you some grief by telling you to unbolt the exhaust bracket that attaches to the bell housing of the tranny first then align the elbow tighten the clamps then re-install the exhaust elbow. This was with a PAC brake but I think it wil ber similar. Hope this helps. PS Make sure your batteries are disconnected first.

The brake kit does have instructions and it does show the pins that you need to connect the wiring to. The instructions are very thorough and have good diagrams.

The whole install is very simple. If you need to, the fender liner can be taken out so that you have better access to the ecm. All in all, I would not pay someone to do it for me. About two hours max. Hardest part really is putting the belt on, but not that tough.

You mean "exhaust brake"?

"Jake" brake is a commonly refered to version of a engine brake which uses the engines valves to slow the engine by holding the valves shut during deceleration. The exhuast brake uses a similar technique by closing a valve in the exuast to increase backpressure, slowing the engine.

yes I realize it's an exhaust brake, hence the quotes around the word "Jake"...and it's Jacobs who makes it right?

I see them advertised for $1200 on Ebay...is that a good price?

There's several companies that make them. Jacobs seems to be a good unit from what I've heard. That seems like a pretty good price also.

cummins dealer. search threads on here for vacuum pump. There is a thread that has the part numbers for the vacuum pump.

the jacobs is old technology and the vacuum pump is a very high failure item. go with a bd or pac. they have a lot more braking power and no vacuum pump to fail.

I installed a pacbrake and like the fact it came with an onboard compressor.I now can fill my air bags and tires (although a bigger reserve would help with the tires)and the kids bike tires. It took me about 2 1/2 hours because I left my inner fender on. The instructions were so easy that my 13 year old daughter helped me.

remember to use the remote brake instead of the turbo mounted one if you have plans to go with a bigger turbo in the future.

I have had very good luck with my Pac. It is on all of the time. I'm blew a compressor fuse once and could hardly drive without it!:hehe:
