Installing a power driver's seat and digital overhead display

My truck features Laramie SLT with all the options excluding the digital overhead display and power drivers seat. Recently, I found a parts truck with an agate power driver's seat that I could purchase for a decent price. The seat appears to be in decent shape with the power option. Is it very difficult to install this seat over my manual seat? My truck has the agate cloth interior so it would match correctly. My truck is a 2002 and this seat is coming out of a 2001. Also, I believe I will be purchasing the digital overhead display from the same truck. Is it very difficult to install that, too? Thanks, Colby.

I recently upgraded the overhead console to the digital display. You'll need the specific harness that goes with the digital display to make it work so you can connect the CAN bus wires for the trip computer and ambient temperature. The install is fiddly but doable. You'll either need to pull back the dash a bit to install the connectors for the new harness or splice them. I spliced as I didn't want to mess too much with the dash. I already had the power seats from the factory so can't comment on that part.

The power seat will plug right in, you will need a circuit breaker in the fuse box located on the driver side of the dash (there is an open slot for the breaker to slide into marked "Power Seat" the breakers are silver metal about 1"x.25" NAPA or dealer will have them), power wire is already in the harness. 2001 and 2002 seats and seatbelts are fully interchange (98.5-00 are different but look the same).

Wire harness for the overhead computer is different from the harness which only has map lights, like other poster stated you need to swap this harness. Any overhead computer harness from '99-'02 will work, only difference in overhead computers were some trucks with factory installed anti theft (alarm) have a red LED light at the bottom of the overhead computer (even if the donor has the red LED it will still work without anti theft). Not 100% sure but the overhead computer function may require the feature to be enabled within the PCM (trip to dealer).

As other poster stated the harness plugs into the driver side dash fuse box from the rear, dash has to at least partially come out to gain access to the back.

If you have exterior cab roof lights (clearance lights) those are also part of the harness so make sure the harness you get has those provisions otherwise they they are the same.

You will also need an Ambient Temperature sensor which mounts under the hood by the grill, check to see if you have a spare unused wiring connector (should be by the under hood dome light).

Mopar Part Number on the 20a Circuit Breaker is 04604235 and it goes into unused slot 4 of the fuse box.

I would get the overhead harness from the donor truck (it goes from the passenger sun visor to the center console down the A pillar and to the fuse box, donor truck likely has a cracked dash so you/they don't have to be too careful removing it.

Does your truck have RKE (remote keyless entry)?

RKE is good, that means you have the Highline CTM module so the overhead computer harness you want may already be in your truck, but to be safe pull the donor harness,

Dash removal tools are 13mm, 10mm deep, 8mm deep sockets/ratchet and a Phillips screwdriver. I can have the dash down far enough to get to the back of the fuse box in about 15 minutes if I don't have to worry about cracking the upper dash pad, however much longer if you are trying to NOT crack the dash pad.

Okay, thank you. I have a lot of work planned for my truck currently including this. I have mirrors to install as well as a new radio and speakers that I plan to install at the same time. I will be replacing the dash and instrument bezel at the same time, too. I figured while I did all this I would do the overhead digital display since I found a decent deal off of a parts truck.

I suspect it is NLA from Dodge but even if it was still available they would want crazy money for it ($300-$600 to guess) junkyard is your friend on this, any 1998-2002 one will work. I think the Durango ones are the same. eBay should have them as well I would think in the $20-$30 price range.

They do fail but a bad one is easy to spot as the mirror will either have visible defects in the mirror or the mirror will be very dark.

That looks like the right one, plug and play depends on what harness is currently in the truck, I will for sure plug and play with computer overhead harness.

It may help if you get a parts manual. Google search "2001 BR Parts Manual" some pdf results should display a Factory Service Manual is also handy "2001 Dodge Ram FSM"

Yes and No.

The harness pictured is for the inside of the console, it plugs into the chassis harness you will (likely) need. Mopar still makes that harness because when you try and replace the light bulbs the spring mechanism goes flying everywhere and the dome light switches will not function anymore. So yes you may need it if the overhead console you get has wonky dome lights.

That is the correct overhead console, but you should only need the computer/display not the entire console unless your existing one is defective, they are all the same and the same color. There is a blank panel that removes from a non computer model and the computer installs in that location. You can get one with the security light if you want but you do not need that and adding VSS to a truck requires more parts/programing, than what's been discussed.

Okay, that is what I figured because I have had to remove the light bulb mechanism to fix it in the past. I have linked what I believe is the correct harness. Also, I can not find anything on just selling the digital display portion. I believe I will just have to buy the whole part.
EDIT: I believe this harness is also the wrong one.

55050660AE is the part number for the overhead computer w/o security system (VSS), there usually a few listed on eBay.

The part number has been superseded a few times over the years, but any Overhead LED Computer from 1999-2002 will work (1998.5 will NOT because it is temp and time only even though you see them listed as 98-02 fitment you want one removed from a '99 or newer). If you get one with security red LED you will need to drill a small hole in your overhead for it to poke through.

1. The visors mount in the same manner with phillips screws (both lighted or non lighted) wires go through the hinge

2. You do not need to remove the headliner you can get it down far enough by removing the A pillar trim from both sides, removing the visors/clips, and center overhead console. To remove the entire headliner is a much bigger job, in addition to what already has to be removed the rear seat has to come out to remove the C pillar trim, trim moldings above each door, dry cleaning hooks from each side, and a few plastic push retainers (which usually result in deformed headliner in the adjacent areas from removal)

3. Mirror mount is the same

Most recommend to replace the at least the Heater Core (try and find a copper one if possible) as the dash removal is a process. To get to the evaporator core is a deeper process which adds a few hours to an otherwise lengthy process.

Others may disagree, but in my experience to properly replace the upper dash pad the entire dash must be removed from the truck as there are around 17 screws which retain the HVAC ducts that are only accessible from the back, some you can reach with the dash partially removed but a few cannot be. There are a few good write ups on dash removal.
