I want to delete my exhaust without a tunner

I don't have the money to buy an expensive tuner but I want to put an open exhaust on my truck. I have found some modules that take care of the plugs an cel. I want to know if anybody has used one or knows a different route I could take an if this would increase my mpg.

You will have issues if you just use the dummy plugs, do it right or leave it stock!

Not to criticize you but the last thing I would buy is a Ram CTD if I had to watch every Dollar I spent. Anything you do to these trucks is expensive, including just driving them; wait until something breaks.

^Hows the view from that mighty high horse.
and I bet you have never bought one thing that was on sale or from china.

Ive never used a dpf-r i just went even cheaper and used sims
(you can still find new ones for sale on line)
now back to the sims.
sims are ether 100ohm 0r 300ohm
the 300ohm will not throw a cel, but it will still go threw a regen,
and who wants that when your deleted.

the 100ohn will cause a cel but it will never regen.
then unplug the EGR also, if you haven't already.that will throw a cell too.
some get concerned that they will not know of other issues because the cell is on.
If the truck is still operating normally all you have is some soft codes,
If something serous happens it will go into limp mode or quit running.
then you can scan the stored codes.
I just scan it when I change the oil.

and what issues would thoes be 71_340?
I've been using 100ohm sims with out one "issue" for 60k.

To this day I still run with Bungs in my exhaust and my 100ohm SIMS sit in my center console.

I figure if for some crazy reason I have to let a friend borrower my tuner, or somehow my truck gets flashed at the dealer and at the same time my tuner breaks... Hey, I'll be covered to at least drive the truck.

I would pass on the sims, you will just regret it down the road. If that means waiting another few months until you can afford a tuner than wait. Even the cheapest tuners a smarty or raceme is so much better than sims. Check for used ones in your area, they can usually be had for $500 or so.

The stock tuning from factory on your truck is terribly inefficient and is designed to run hot, and to accomplish that it wastes a lot of fuel. That's why you should retune your truck, it will simply run better and more efficient not to mention you wont have any CELs.

I don't know how different it is for the 2010-2012 Cummins, but four years ago I basically did a cheap delete on my 2007 using a exhaust delete pipe, EGR block off, and sims from H&S Performance. For two years I dealt with a code and chime every time I started the engine, and then in 2012 I used a Smarty Jr to reprogram to the +40hp ME tune.

I track every tank of fuel on an Excel spreadsheet since I bought this truck new. Prior to the deletes in 2010 I averaged about 16 MPG. With the deletes it's about 18 MPG, and little to no difference in MPG since I reprogrammed with the Smarty.

I ran sims for over a year on my 2012 with alright results in the MPG department. I left my EGR plugged in. I had no CEL, but there are the overheat codes like everyone says. I can vouch for the factory tune being very dirty at least with the EGR plugged in. You will smoke pretty hard when you get on it.

After swapping to a tuner on the 12, I put the sims over to my high mileage 2010 that has had the EGR unplugged, with DPF intact forever. I used the sims on the exhaust and ditched the DPF. Truck doesn't smoke at all on it, I assume because the EGR is unplugged. It is a very viable way to delete in my book. As long as you are on the pre high output trucks I think you are golden when unplugging the EGR, it didn't seem to derate mine.

I had the exact same results on my '12. I still have my SIMS in place even though I am using a tuner now. It is a great fall back for times when I need to bring the truck to the dealership for service/warranty work.

BTW... OP never stated what year his truck was... I hope he was posting in the right section...
