How to disable all time 4 wheel drive

I just bought a 2007.5 5.9 dually about a week ago. The 4 wheel drive is on all the time. There is no 4x4 switch on the dash or a stick on the floor. I have to push the Tow/Haul button twice to go into 4 wheel low. I was wondering if there is any way I can disable the all time 4x4 so I can save some gas? Will a computer programer do anything like that?
Thank you

Add lockout hubs is the only way to disable full time 4x4.

Not sure what you think is happening but hitting the TH button twice lockouts OD. Not sure what that has to do with low range.

I've never heard of that. Also.....a 2007.5 5.9L??? In 2007.5 the 6.7L was put in. It must be a 2007 if it's truely a 5.9L.

To the best of my knowledge none of the big three have ever made a full time 4WD 3/4 or 1 ton pickup. You will typically only see a full time 4WD system in lighter vehicles that rarely leave the pavement. A full time 4WD transfer case uses a viscous coupling so it does not always transfer equal power to front and rear. These systems are not the best for real off road work like real HD trucks are made for.

Not to say that they couldn't have made one but I doubt it.

I don't know if Dodge has recently (I've never heard of one), but all of the big three have made full time 4WD in the past. Most used an open type differential in the transfer case. If you just put manual hubs on as someone suggested then the truck won't move with the hubs disengaged, because the transfer case differential will send power to the axle with least traction, i.e. the front axle not connected to the wheels. There are kits you can buy that lock the differential in the transfer case.

I think you just bought a rear wheel drive dually that you misunderstood the salesmen or the salesmen misled you with the 4 wheel drive because it has 4 wheels in the rear. If it is indeed a 4x4 you will have a shifter on the console or and selector button on the dash. There is no such thing as a full time all wheel drive Dodge 2500 or 3500 .

I do not believe your truck has full time 4x4. Not saying you are a liar, just probably got some bad info. If it was full time 4x4 your front axle would be binding up and clunking like crazy every time you took a turn.

There is a front differential, but does not have a 4x4 switch on the dash or a stick on the floor. I had the vin pulled up and 4x4 is the original equipment. The guys at the dealer are saying they have only seen one other and they are very rare. They put it on the lift and it is definitely in 4 wheel drive the front wheels were turning. When I push the Tow/Haul button twice it goes into 4 wheel low. Has anybody seen or heard of this before?
Thank you

"Full-time four-wheel drive (all-wheel drive) is available with the 4.7-liter V8 for improved stability in slippery conditions on the 2007 Ram"

It isn't supposed to be available on the Cummins models, but if you have one there is no way to disable it without major work that will cost more than your fuel savings. I don't understand how you're not binding and blowing up your differential every time you take a turn.

aint never seen a hemi in a dully :confused013:

I think you mean a 5.7 which is the medium sized hemi engine. I would think they would have the 6.1 but maybe there was a choice. The 4.7 would be a little small for a dually 3500 dontcha think? ;)

Ummmm.......WE can't tell that from the internet. ;)

Look at the tag on the transfer case and find the model. If its a 273-HD you have a switch on the dash somewhere.

If its not, what model is it?

Yeah, i'm the luckiest guy in the world. I'm the only person that has an Inline-6 4.7 Hemi in a dually, that runs on diesel fuel.

Yes, its a 5.9 diesel
Yes, Its a dually
Yes, its 4 wheel drive.. (Technically 6, for that smartass.)

I'll check out the stamp on the front diff and get back to you, and i'll shoot some pics.

Its crazy to me too.

wow...........

i have seen hemi dually trucks around here also. not many but a few.

You could get an AWD 6.1 Hemi in the Jeep SRT8 Grand Cherokee I think. But never an option to my knowledge on any year any model Diesel from Dodge.Do you have your window sticker ? It will call out "Manual shift -on-the-fly Transfer case or whats the other option ? Electronic push button select ?

To the OP . If you dont have a 2x4 or 4x4 nob on the left. What then is there ?
