I am about to have my rear main seal, cam seal (?) and oil pan gasket changed soon. Due to a leak coming from an unknown source this will be done as a precaution and a "health" checkup on the lower end of the engine. I am know also suspecting a front seal leak as well. For those of yall that have changed the rear or front seal, how many miles did you have on your truck prior to this maintenance? I currently have 284,XXX miles on my truck.

The rear seal is kinda common. You should have just changed it out when you did the transmission. I should have as well. I think mine is starting to leak. With your mileage, it's about time for both of those anyway.

I agree, hard lesson learned I believe. I am going to have them both replaced because it really is the right thing to do. I appreciate yalls experiences. The engine still runs strong and hopefully will last a lot longer with some TLC.

FWIW, my rear seal is leaking. I get a very slow build of sooted up DELO400 coming out of the inspection hole cover. Its so slow I dont worry. Once the tranny is out, its a 15 minute job to change it.

Truck has 157k on it.
