Ok I have read in the past that these trucks have the high idle function built into the computer but it just needs to be activated my owners manual also says it just needs to be activated. Anyways i called the dealer to see if they would turn it on they told me 100 bucks then they told me they cant do it anymore on my 09 and said it had something to with its regen. Do any of you guys have it activated on your 09 or is the dealer just suffering their normal ignorance. ps this is a stock truck with the J35 update

Nothing should have changed. Most dealers don't know how to enable it or in some cases won't try. Your best bet if you want to stay stock is to find someone with a Smarty or Xrt to enable it for you. The Xrt can change the setting without downloading any tunes to your truck. The Smarty will have to be downloaded then set back to stock.

Watch when you suggest this to 09 owners. Later 09's have the ECM locked and you can mess it up if you try and load a program into it.

It is activated on my 09. That dealer is feeding you a line of bovine excrement.

Most dealers (the good ones), in cold climate areas, turn this feature on as part of the PDI. On '07 and '08 and some '09 trucks, it is under the export menu in the ECU. On some (late) '09s and all '10s it is already functioning from the factory, to the best of my knowledge. Just for reference, my dealer charges $32.95 CDN to manipulate the functions in the ECU.

we just had a 09 idle up, tire monitor press. lowered, and driving lights on with high beams activated at a local dealer. I think the damage was only $50. so to answer your question it can be done

Dropped mine at the dealer for some warranty stuff and told them I wanted the high idle enabled and fogs with high beams. Service writer calls back and tells me there is no such thing. WTF!!! Trying to explain to the guy what I was talking about turned into a heated discussion and my questioning of his ancestry.

A week later I took it to another dealer and had the high idle enabled (no charge), but they wouldn't do the fogs for legality issues.

Stopped by the first dealer to prove that it COULD be done.
Same service writer walks out to the truck, I kick up the idle and he mutters "Huh? I didn't know they would do that" Gets his diesel tech out to show him and he says "yeah, I know about that". I had mentioned something over the phone about high idle like a PTO control. He had told the tech I wanted a PTO installed on the trans :rof

Talked with the tech for a bit and asked him about enabling the fog with high beams. Said he would but didn't know how to access it. Told him I would be in the next day with the instructions to do it and a 12 pack of his beverage of choice.
Got it done in about 10 mins. Asked to keep the instructions I had written down. Didn't even want the beer.

I have an '09, high idle enabled and fogs with high beam, too. You don't say if you are auto or manual tranny. The auto is easy, just the programming. The manual tranny needs the ground wire for the PTO grounded before the high idle can be enabled.
When I asked to have this work done, my dealership let me talk directly to the diesel tech in the shop. He had no problem figuring it out and getting it done.
And they did the work at no charge to me..............

OK! Now can you share those instuctions here? Or PM please?
I got a tech that is going to do my TPMS and high idle, but I want the high beam fog as well.

Thank you sir!

I have the high idle turned on on mine (done as part of the PDI before I bought it), the fogs set so that they stay on with the high beams, and the speedo adjusted for 285 tires. I,m not sure about the speedo adjustment but the lights, idle etc are all under the export menu in the ECU.

This can be done at the stealership, and your dealer has to enable if you request for free, its in your manual and states this can be done at the dealer at no cost. as well as hill assist in your tcm. and a few other things .At least this is what my manual reads but thay could have made some changes to the manual.

Sure can. I will try to find it when i get home from work. Now im not sure if it was in the main manual or if it was in the quick guide to user options. In any case I will find it tonight.
