My truck kind of does this surge/lope when it is on high idle. I noticed it before, but now that I put exhaust on it I can hear it much more pronounced. As soon as I kick it off of high idle or put it in gear it goes away. It seems do drive just find, but this kinda worries me. I have only had the truck for a few weeks, and don't know if this is right... what do ya think?

How cold is it there? Is it cold enough for your grid heater to be on? I know mine makes different sounds when the grid heater kicks on and off. Does it sound like a lope or does it idle up and go back back down sometimes?

if it dos it with the manal high idle where you turn it on your self that is normal for it is a pto throtle we use it as a high idle the diff is that it is fuel loaded high idle desighned to load the engine . so it is contiualy compancating.

I plug mine in and go out in the morning and my gauge reads 100 degrees on the coolant temp.. you blow hot air instantly and its nicer on things..

Your probably hearing the grid heater cycling on and off, its the way the cummins warms up faster since they dont have glowplugs to rely on to start up

Mine does the same thing and always has since I had High Idle enabled at 14,400mi.

My 03 kicks up to 1050 rpms anytime it idles for more than about 2 or 3 minutes.Does not matter if its warm or cold.I did see it go to high idle as soon as i started it one time when it was probably about 15 degrees.I have only had my truck about a month or so but it was doing the lopein thing on high idle when i got back out from Wal Mart this afternoon.Sounded kinda cool but not loud enough for me.I bought my truck with the Banks Six Gun on it and i always have it on 6 cause i havnt pulled anythng with it yet and my egts have not saw 900 since ive owned it.

your egts should be higher than that stock, where is you egt probe, is it before or after the turbo?

mine just started to high idle and would jump back and forth between 1,000 and like 1,150rpm and would shake the truck like its missing or something

I've noticed that if the truck automatically goes into high idle it will lope, but if I manually put it into high idle it idles smooth, no lope. Not sure why but that is the way mine is. '06 with 63,000mi.

i had a bit of popping/airy idle noises at an unloaded idle (in park/nuetral/on a decel while in gear). also had it at high idle. i read the post in the powertrain section about the grounded wire on the a/c compressor housing. found the wire but didnt find any chaffing. i wiggled it and tied it up out of the way. the popping seemed to go away but it still lopes at high idle. i normally hold my foot on mine at 1200 rpms while warming up in cold weather. it is smooth but gets lopey between 1000-1100. just sounds like fluctuations in fuel delivery to me.
