Help with Edge "Jammer" Cold Air Intake and Filter

I finally figured out a previous owner of my truck had installed an Edge Jammer CAI and Filter. Since it's obvious that the filter needs to be changed, I started digging around on the EdgeProducts website, but that was no help at all. I could not find that particular model.

So, does anyone out there have any idea what suitable filter would be a replacement?

P.S. I do like the huge air intake hose on the filter, but I guess that non-standard approach really limits options, huh?

What you need to do is go down to Home Depot and get you one of these

Then put that CAI inside it, and put it on the curb.

Alternatively,, you could take some measurements then look on AFE's website and find a ProGuard7 oiled filter that would fit/ replace the one you have for a less expensive option to total replacement of everything.

With all the money that I've put into this truck since I got it, I really don't need to be spending more than I have to. The Edge box itself looks to me as good as anything else I've seen, so I guess I will try to find a quality filter to fit.

I was hoping by posting here that someone else had come across this same situation.

Thanks.

That filter likely doesn't need to be replaced, just cleaned. Though if it's a K&N type that expects to be oiled and such, I'm with Anton, trash it. But it looks a lot like my AFE.

Oiled air filters have an inherent advantage over dry filters in trapping and holding onto dirt. Unfortunately oiled air filters got a bad reputation when K&N made them out of 1 ply so that that could claim their 300% increase in airflow that they like to put on the side of the box. And as such those filters didn't really well,, filter air very well. And on vehicles equipped with a mass airflow meters (MAF), which we don't have, oiled filters can cause the MAF issues if you over-oil them, but again, not an issue with a Cummins 12 valve.

On the flip side of the terrible K&N's of old (K&N has supposedly changed their design after a class action lawsuit), AFE's proguard 7 (made with 7 layers, hence the name proguard 7) , is an oiled filter that works fanatically well, better than a Donaldson dry BHAF filter actually (well assuming the Donaldson filter I got of Amazon wasn't a counterfeit anyway), and I've got the used oil analysis samples that prove it.

Heck even our resident grouchy old man (@GAmes ) runs a oiled AFE proguard7 the last I heard,,, they can't be that bad considering the milage he's got.

To sum up...

Edge sent me an email today advising that Banks makes a filter for my Edge CAI. Looking at the Banks site, I found their SKU #42188 is apparently a replacement.

Interestingly enough, the Edge CAI looks close to what Banks and aFe make, so I'm keeping it.

I had already decided on a different filter before I heard from Edge. Based on the dimensions and appearance, I discovered that the aFe Magnum FLOW Black Pro 5R Air Filter Part Number 27-90204K is a suitable replacement. The aFe representative I spoke to agreed.

I cleaned up and will oil the original filter as an emergency spare, but the aFe is going into the CAI as soon as it gets here.

Thanks to all for their input.

stock airbox with a corresponding QUALITY filter is good for ~350hp.

I can't tell you how many K&N trucks I swapped back to stock intakes after I showed the owners how much debris was getting past their "filter".

Theres a reason why quality intakes are more than $200.

Cheaper K&Ns and parts store filters are fine for the track but no good for regular use.

Paper filters typically filter better than oilled cotton filters or synthetic. Some synthetic filters (like a 7 layer AFE) will filter better but you will pay for it $$$.

Good research is required.

Cold air intakes and performance exhausts are the biggest wastes of money in the industry... When it comes to these trucks in general; they are by far the highest cost for minimal gain.

+1. Though, my 4" exhaust was a great investment. Between aspirin for the headaches from the drone, and soap for the right rear wheel, I've easily saved the cost from the no-muffler, front-of-wheel-exit exhaust the PO put on :D
