Hello,

I was driving home just now and all of a sudden my power steering went out. The brakes also got harder and harder and eventually not work much at all.

The power steering cap was blown up to where it is not tight anymore.

Here are the symptoms
1. Serpentine belt loose (not on)
2. Red fluid everywhere
3. Cap popped off the power steering resvore
4. Brakes started to fade almost to where they do not work at all

Anyone have this happen to them before?

Well I can move the water pump up and down so the bearing is loose. The weird thing is its a brand new gates that it only has about 12k miles on it.

Would the serpentine belt coming off cause the power steering fluid cap to burst like that?

While I've never had that happen, if a bearing or pulley starts to give and it causes your belts to flex, almost anything is possible. Now that you likely don't have belts on, check the play on the pulleys and see just how much wiggle you have; it's very likely you've lost the power steering pump and maybe even the tensioner.

Last summer on my 03, the original water pump bearing failed, and the belt flue off, and most of the coolant was lost.

Im not sure why on yours the PS cap came off...weird.

Have you checked out the other bearing pulleys? If your PS pump also failed...Is it possible to over pressurize and make the cap blow?

I replaced the water pump today with a cummins. The gates water pump I put on there lasted about 12k miles. (wont be buying gates again)

I topped the ps reservoir with atf+4 and drove it for about 30 miles today with no issues. Lets hope thats the last of it.
