Ok guys iv'e searched and researched this topic and there are various opinions. I am replacing the radiator and thermostat on friday, my truck has green coolant now and I plan on doing a flush with distilled water and a flush additive. I have heard its hard to get every bit of the coolant out of the system and iv'e also read to not mix green with hoat or anything else, would it be ok for me to do the flush and go back with green? Or should I get the zerex g-05, also how many gallons of coolant and water will I need as far as the mixture? Thanks guys!

IAT antifreezes (traditional) use silicates to prevent corrosion. OAT and HOAt antifreezes use organic acids to prevent corrosion. Mixing them can reduce the corrosion protection.

Also just because it is green does not mean it is IAT versus OAT/HOAT. Someone could have added UV dye for a leak and that will turn it green.

Drain the block... there is a drain plug on both sides (IIRC) of the front of the block. I know for sure there is one by the oil filter side of the block. Coolant I think has always been a personal preference... my truck has had nothing but the G-05 + distilled water in it, last May I swapped the water pump (gates pump failure) and there was zero corrosion that I could see behind the pump. Always drains clean whenever I dump the coolant....

Oh wait... wait... no I lied... I did have a strawberry milk shake in there one time.... that was a beotch to clean out

This would be a perfect time to do a complete flush and switch back to the HOAT G05 coolant recommended by the manufacturer. I use the Zerex stuff, available a NAPA, Walmart and other places.

I went back to Mopar antifreeze, I have used G5 for the last few years and I change my water pump every other year with the serpentine belt (yea overkill but it makes me sleep better at night). Main reason for me was Mopar was closer to get and I didn't have to explain to the parts monkey that regular old Prestone will not hurt anything in a diesel...my grandpa and my dad ran it for a hundred...yea yea yea yea

And they were similar in price, one of the few items the dealer doesn't lube you up for
