Hey everyone,

I’ve read and read some more about the Alpharex assembly, and it seems like it’s a 50/50 on whether guys like them or not.
My dad has a 2008 2500 and the headlights and reflectors are garbage. We’re goin to do an HID or LED upgrade but I wanted to try to upgrade him to a project lens to better direct the light. I can get the Alpharex for around $450 which is a good price. I don’t want to do custom due to price. What’s the verdict on Alpharex? Good to go or avoid?
Thanks in advance

IMO over-marketed, fancy website, fancy looking imported junk. OVERPRICED

Edit, im sorry I got brands mixed up, I have not had Alpharex in my hands personally so IDK, but I do think what I said might still stand. They do looks nice, I like the look of the their more basic PRO-Series Halogen Projectot, and ~400$ isn't too bad if they don't leak. being Halogen. doubt they will blind everyone on the road

Yea it’s kind of a tricky situation. I don’t want oem style since the reflector is most of the problem, but I also don’t wanna drop $400 and them be junk and leak. Obviously having some custom built is the best way to go, but I don’t wanna spend that much on a truck that has 263k and is best to death haha. Hopefully someone can verify if they’re good or not

I Realize i have a 4th gen but at the end of the day, you ask 10 people. And you're probably gonna get 5 or 6 different answers if not more. There's all kinds of people that claim to know everything on the internet. You can choose to believe that if you'd like as they are sponsered regardless of what those youtubers tell you.

At the end of the day, I did as much research as I could for mine and bought
the alpharex headlights with 4LEDs and gen 4.5 drls. I like them a lot but they were pricey at almost 1300. Some will say I wasted $$ some and most actually ask me where I got them for a 4th gen.

I think you do fine with those $400 jobs. But remember, you always get what you pay for.

I've not looked at Alpharex in a long time because I had read and heard too much bad about them at the time. I realize that most don't go out of their way to talk up products like they will when they're disappointed. I do have 2 friends with other brand trucks that had issues with their Alpharex light assemblies.

That said, I like to build my own headlights. I don't go to the 9s with them but focus on good quality (usually) projectors with HIDs. I've done a few sets using top end components to the cheapest Amazon stuff and they turned out well for a fraction of the cost of having some built for me. I realize that the late 3rd gen style (06-09) OEM lights are the least attractive when retrofit and it's hard to say no to the 4th and 5th gen style lights they're making for the late 3rd gens. They do look pretty good and LED tech has come a log way in recent years.

Whatever you decide, stay away from LEDs or HIDs in reflector buckets, H1 halogen housings (they are NOT the same as H1 HIDs) and avoid putting LEDs in projectors not designed for them (you get a funky beam).

AFAIK, Alpharex has a pretty good warranty and when one of my friends called them on his lights malfunctioning they took care of him. That was a few years ago when they were a newer company tho. Unfortunately, company success often leads to less customer support after the sale. Not saying that has happened but it's something to be aware of.

Thanks everyone for the replies. To answer a couple things, the projectors in the Alpharex are fine to use with HID and LED (same projector lens) and I’d assume the housing it’s self is the same. Also yes, I’m aware of not putting LED’s in a reflector. That’s bad for everyone haha.
As for Alpharex as a whole, I emailed them last night with some questions and have already had some responses from them. That’s a good sign. Also the warranty is 2 years which is decent. And finally, yes I firmly believe you get what you pay for. But in this instance it’s for my dads truck, which is beat up, old and not exactly treated nicely, so the $400 headlights make the most sense.

I personally have alpharex heads and tails. My heads were over a grand though. I can tell you the lighting is much better in terms of projection and sharpness over OEM. I have also previously had OEM housings with upgaded HID and LED bulbs and although they too were much better/brighter. They aren't as clear or as bright as the Alphas. I learned that projection is everything. Cause even though the lights I had in my oem housings were technically more lumens than the alphas, the projection just wasn't as good. There are some youtube videos that show you the difference between OEM and after the alphas. I haven't had the alphas for that long so I can't comment on longevity or leaks or anything like that. But a friend of mine has and he has had no issues. For me it was between the morimotos or alphas. The morimotos have slightly brighter lighting, but I personally like the look of the alphas.

I’m more concerned with build quality than light output. Stock light output is just fine for me

what I do want is a quality housing that’s not $650 for new OEM, and honestly, the all chrome late 3rd gen lights are a bit ugly IMO so if it looked nicer that would be cool.

Quality, doesn’t leak, doesn’t sun burn for like 10 years. OEM can do it, not sure why aftermarket can’t seem to attain this.

In my personal experience my OEM heads did not last very long in terms of yellowing. They started to discolor around 2014 and I have an 08. Could also be due to climate I am in. I am in socal so we do tend to get a lot of sun and heat. Now I did do the typical headlight restoration and then ceramic coating. Which lasted probably another 4-5yrs. I did the restoration again this time wet sanding pretty aggressively. They still look pretty good. But they have been swapped for the alphas.

As for build quality just like anything, you get what you pay for. I am personally not a fan of the chrome either. I kept my oem headlights just in case. But I am pretty sure the alphas build quality is actually superior to the OEM at this point. I also did add PPF to them once I installed them for added protection. It hasn't been too long for me, but I am pretty sure they aren't going to leak. My friend has had his alphas on going on 4-5yrs now with no issues.
