FAILED Smog

Hey guys, I've got a question for you, any input would be appreciated.
I am looking to buy and register a 2005 Cummins private party in California, the only mods are a CARB legal AEM intake, and a Bullydog Triple Dog Programmer.
We set it back to stock settings and drove straight to the smog shop. It failed the OBD and the Snap test.
We then were told to drive it around and do a "drive cycle", and then retest it on Monday.
Is this something that you have heard of happening before?
What is the best way to go about getting it to pass?
Thanks!

put 32oz of Diesel Kleen in a tank of fuel
hook up to a 10k+ trailer and tow the trailer hard burning up the tank of diesel.
cleans the CAT and injector tips.
refuel and put in another 32oz of DK
check, correct and clear the codes before taking in for retest.
make sure the rail pressure meets specs. low RP means poor fuel atomization and dirty incomplete burn

out on freeway for a hard 30 mile run then into the inspection pit.

engine may have FIs starting to leak

ok so basically try to get the engine to burn up all the carbon inside?
also, when you clear the codes if it has any, does that also mean that the smog sensors will need to recalibrate themselves? is 30 miles enough?

drive the truck 60 miles cruising on freeway, park truck for a few hours, then drive 60 miles again, park truck for cool down. Then drive for 80 miles let truck cool. Daily drive truck these miles, and cooling cycles will clear the obd required test. Before you do any of this unload the BDTD, do not hook any programmers to the truck until it passes smog. I had this issue with my other ride, it takes a while for the obd to cycle through its test. DON'T mess with the batteries either.

Best way to pass the smog test is to remove the engine and pull your truck in with a Smart car.

Dodge failed to place the emissions control on the 3rd gen.. Correct me if I'm wrong

All third gens are emissions regulated engines. Actually ever since 98.5 all dodges have had to meet at least some level of federal emssions and the 96-97 CA 12 valves even had very crude EGR. What I am thinking is the "stock" setting on his BD does not have the features of the CA reflash recalls....K-01 or whatever it was...

was the truck origanally sold in CA or was it brought there from somewhere else? The california version of the 05's is tuned for slightly less power to meet the strict emmisions. all other trucks from that year come stock with more power (High Output version). if the truck was origanally sold in another state and has the high output stock engine it will never pass the CA emmisions.

if everything else checks out with the truck and ur comfortyable buying it dont let the CA emmisions bother u. u can get a smarty SO6 and tune it for half power and u will definitely pass and then of course ul have the smarty to bring it back up to stock level,or to the high output level that all the non CA sold trucks come with stock, or tune it for much more power if ur planning on building the truck up a bit in the future

hey all, thanks for the help!
we ended up doing the drive cycle as mentioned, and it passed all tests!
