Sooo im kinda curious here. I had an 88 w150 with a 318, had cruise control and it worked alright. My 90 w250 has the exact same turn signal/cruise control stock. Was the LE trucks equiped with the one turn signal/wipers/ cruise control stock? Or did the cruise control stocks only come on trucks with cruise? Basically im looking for someone who has added cruise to a cummins, I know how the gassers work but the diesel ones are new to me, pictures would be awesome, knowledge would be helpful too. I just wanna know if this is something I can add on and how do I go about it and what do I need?

what ive seen in the past, is that 89/90 cummins(and gassers) came with the controls on the stering wheel... similar to that of the 91-93's, but as a bar across the bottom of the wheel's center section.

thats all i got, wish i could be of better help to you

So far as I know the 89/90 and early 91...Non-IC motor truck had the same old cable driven cruise control set-up like the 88 and older gasser trucks. The 91.5 to 93 IC trucks went to a electronically controlled cruise set-up.

From what I've read, and my own experience so far, the 91.5 to 93 system is WAY more problematic then the old cable driven system. I have been working for weeks on my cruise in the crewcab (93 system) and still won't hold a steady speed. :banghead:

I think once they went to the high/low beam switch on the steering column turn signal stock, they had to move the controls to the center of the steering wheel. There just was not enough room on the turn signal stock for Cruise, intermittent wipers, and high/low beams.

If you put a foot controlled high/low beam switch on the floor, then you could easily run a gasser style turn signal stock with cruise and wipers.

Nah man, my truck was built in nov of 89, non-ic, LE high option package as far as I can tell, ive got the chome everywhere, all the bells and whistles except power mirrors. My left stalk contols my wipers (intermittent wipers) my turn signals and my high and low beams. But it also has 90s GM style cruise contol on it as well, but my speedometer is electronic, not the cable driven style
.
My stalk is alot like the top one in this picture, aside from different styling. But its OFF then the next spot is ON and then the R/A is a switch that you push into and thats what sets the cruise. My 88 318 w150 had the exact same stalk, same colors, same style, even contolled the same stuff, did I maybe get a mid year change and get the cruise stalk simply because dodge was using what was left of them before they moved to the wheel or...? I know Chrysler especially loves mid year changes and stupid crap like that. Not shooting anyone down here or trying to be a know it all, this has just got me stumped.

My first inclination is that somebody swapped out the columns or something like that... Too bad no one else with a 90 or stalk type controls has chimed. The electric speedo is correct for any 90 all of which were built in 89 or possibly into the very early months of 1990.

WhenI bought my crewcab, it had already had a cummins/NV4500 stuffed into it. It also used a 89 wiring harness, steering column etc. It had the intermittent wipers, and high/low beams on the stock.

I later picked up another steering column, from an early 91 truck. It had the same steering column as the 89 unit in my crewcab. I even used the turn signal switch off it when the one in my 89 died. I did have to swap around a couple wires though to make everything work right.

Neither truck had cruise so i can't say if the stock would be different? I agree with jbtsurf...either the column was swapped, or the turn signal lever was grabbed form a minivan or something, and made to work.

Well crap. Honestly thut about swapping my truck back over to cable driven speedo, since they dont have problems with the odometer messing up. Not sure if thats difficult or worth it, but it it was a thut. Im assumingthe plug for the contols in the engine bay is in the harness on the drivers side fender liner correct? If so I think im in over my head because ive got no open plugs out there.

If the truck has the electronic speedo, then there should be a 4 wire plug on the drivers inner fender that would plug in to the cruise control servo. On the old cable driven system I believe the cruise control servo only used a 2 wire connection.

If it's an old cable driven servo your looking at, Ma Mopar used the same unit from 1968 right on through to the early 90's. The only thing that changed was the cruise control switches inside the vehicles, the mounting location and bracket, and the length of the cables.

So just gonna resurrect this so the previous information can be shown. Anyways, good ol picapart had a pullathon (50 bucks for whatever you can carry 20 foot) and I got lots of stuff for my 50 bucks, amoung that a 96 cruise contol servo from a half ton 4x4 ram, and a whole steering column from a 94 b250 van. Went with that column becuse it doesn't have an air bag and I dont want a random, not hooked up, air bag in my truck. Its about a 1/2 inch longer and I can make it fit. Ive compared the wiper switch and ignition to my 90 and its all run the same (except wire color) but the big reason for the grab was its got cuise, the van was clean as hell and imma assume the colomns electrical is all good. Ive got a second column from my parts truck so IF this no work ill put mine back in. Piece of cake. Except I didnt realize the cruise ran through the pcm on these trucks. Wiring and even wire colors are the same between the column and servo, so I know theyll mate. Plus the turns, wipers, horn, ignition (even came with keys!) Will mate. So my ultimate question isss... what do I do to make the column and servo work? I assume the tcm will not work without other readings but could a 94+ pcm work with just power, ground and the cruise hooked up? If not whats my next option? I know the 90 to early 91 had a seperate cruise control module, is that what im gonna have to get? Any help and advice would be very helpful.

I'm sorry to not be positive about what you want to do. But I think your taking a simple system...the early pre-electronic cruise system...and making it a heck of a lot more complicated.

You could always run an intermittent wiper control that came on the earlier trucks. It was just to the right of the headlight switch, just a lever you moved to adjust the speed of the wipers. As well as the low/high speed wiper function as well. Then you could find a turn signal stock with just the cruise, and high/low beam function.

I have the stalk with the cruise/intermittent wipers/high beams/turns on my truck now. I was told above that stalk is from a non electronic speedo truck, the cable driven ones, my truck is a electronic speedo so I have to use the electronic cruise. Im not worried about the wipers and all because ive got that figured out, just comes to, attach this wire to this wire. What im looking to get information about is the module, I know I need a module, but which one? Do they sell aftermarket ones, can I use another manufacturers one. Just looking for module information. Might have put too much information in that post so I apologize
