I've had six speed trucks in the past and know they work well. But how is the stock auto holding up in the 4th gen I will be pulling a 24ft boat mostly nothing bigger. Just hate to buy a auto and it be a big mistake thanks in advance

My 2012 has 32,xxx miles. I have the 68RFE transmission. I tow a 30' 15,000lbs. 5th wheel. It has done great, and I've had no issues. (Knock on wood) The gear shift gear selector is very handy. I do think that regular fluid changes are important. I plan on changing my transmission fluid at 60,000 miles, or a bit before, just to keep things tip top. Best wishes, & welcome to the form.

I wished I had gotten the manual, but I was worried about the wife or friends damaging the clutch at the boat ramp, so I have the 68RFE.

I have the owner's manual in a PDF. Shoot me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you.

Edit:
I found the owners manual and user guide. Dropbox links are here:

24' boat will be nothing for the truck and 68RFE. Like Camperman, I have 32,xxx miles and I tow a 40' 15,000+ toy hauler and a 24' foot boat all summer no issues. Hell I tow the boat mostly with my diesel Jeep and it gets the job done and its not as stout as the truck. Like others have mentioned, keep the fluid changed and don't drive like a retard (ie boosted launches and trying to drag race while towing) and it should last you a long time. I do have a aftermarket deep trans pan and aux trans cooler to keep temps lower and I feel that is a big help. my .02

It's not an Allison but its a close second, 68RFE shifts smooth stock but from what I've read on here a trans tune will make it even better.

If you delete it, run EFI live, or H&S with MCC and overdrive tuning, the 68 is quite a stout transmission.

Get the details and limitations of the trans tuning before you buy. If I hadn't already paid $300 for trans tuning, I would like to find a way to customize the trans tuning or a tuner that will make specific changes to the shift strategy. I.E. I don't have a noticeable enough difference between tow/haul mode to even tell if it's pressed or not. Empty, mine does not hold a gear longer with tow/haul mode pressed. I haven't put a load on it to know how it will react with some weight behind it.
