As the title says.... via the FSM and vin my truck was built in Saltillo Mexico... Im really disappointed. Being this is my first diesel and I know nothing about diesels, I learned the Blackhawk helicopter by reading the FSM (so to speak). So I set out tonight to read the FSM a little at a time and that's how I found out my truck was make in Mexico. I think its bs that I did not get this info when I bought the truck. Its getting harder and harder to try and buy American when you think what you are buying is American. I love my truck but..... I thought Dodge was all American!! (I have a Jeep too. Now I wonder about it).

I think Ford is the only one that makes a full size truck in america, and its only the diesel, they have the super duty headquarters in Kentucky. Not sure about Chevy though, i think they are mexico too.

I know dodge and chevy are just "Assembled" there though, and the ford was just "assembled" in usa, the parts came from ALL across the world..

I'm pretty sure they've been assembling Rams in Mexico for as long as the Dodge Ram has existed... I couldn't confirm on Google, but I did find a guy mentioning his 92 being assembled in Mexico. My dads 96 3500 was assembled in Mexico. My 10 was too.

Consider yourself lucky actually. The truck plant down in Satillo has been among the top in quality for a while now. Compare their trucks versus one's coming out of Dodge truck in Detroit and you'll see why they get the higher ratings. All of their processes are identical only variable is the workers.

I've had less issues with my '08 than I had with my '69, '85, '93, or '94 Dodges.
I believe the 6.7 Ford engine is assembled in Mexico. I hope Chrysler stays away from the problematic Bosch fuel pump that Ford and GM have both been stuck with. Good luck to us all.

I am pretty sure our whole Injection system is Bosch Gmbh. Hard to beat a kraut on diesel technology.

I did not get the pleasure of ordering my truck.....got it off a lot.. but I did get the pleasure of saving about 10g on an 08 with 34k miles on it that had never had a trailer hooked up to it!!! So there for I would have not gotten that info... of made in Mexico. I would say Dodge is false advertising. Thank God it has a Cummins in it!!

Dodge Rams are built in Saltilo Mexico and Warren Michigan. Until recently they were also built in St Louis Mo. GM pickups are built in Fort Wayne Ind and Flint Mich. Up until 2009 they were also built in Oshawa Ont.

Dodge isn't misleading anyone, as has been mentioned already the build location is printed right on the vehicle placard on the driver's B-pillar. It's not Dodge's fault you didn't check this first...and even if you did, so what? Would that have stopped you from buying the truck? What would you have bought instead? What if it were built in Canada?

I buy American whenever possible, even if it means paying a little more, but these days things are done on a global scale and it's really a "global" economy. If you limited yourself to products that were manufactured 100% in America and all revenue stayed here in America you wouldn't own much, unfortunately.

It's a noble fight, but one that cannot be won these days.

I see some of your point. But I would rather order a truck pick it up part by part and built it my self than pay Mexico or any other country for that matter. That will save dodge the time and money dealing with Mexico. VPs and high up personal at dodge can then get the pay raise they want. The same reason they moved production to Mexico Right?

Mexico is part of "North America".

If Dodge built every thing in the States, The trucks would cost more. American workers demand & deserve more pay. However, American consumers have issue with paying more for something, when they can get it cheaper.

Most of the products made over seas are done by Americans.

EX:

Two American companies have been making widgets for over 80 years, right here in the states. The cost to make a widget has gone up over the years. Labor rates going up, suppliers parts going up, and so on. For one of these widget makers decided its time to up-production, and build a better product. You see, the current equipment they use is over 50 years old.
The owner finds its gona cost millions to up-date, and he'll need to bring in new people that have the knowledge to run new equipment.
Turns out, he can out-source to China and save. And not only save, but build a better widget. Cause over in China, the infrastructure is newer & the machinery is newer.
So, he closes his factory here in the states. Expands his warehouse, invests more in marketing, and hires a top notch engineer to design widgets.
The Widget is designed and tested here in the states, built in China, and sold worldwide.
He makes booko money, top notch products, and they sell for a lot less than his competitor. Cause His Competitor has to pay much higher labor rates, and is using ~50 to 70yr old machinery.
----
Its now a global market, and America NEEDs to adjust and we need to take our rightful place on top. And the top is NOT manufacturing. The top is designing, Tech, communication, space, and so on. Let the peons of the world build our path, We NEED to be the designers of the path.

What do you want your kids doing? Building a truck, or designing something that the truck will use?

Truth is Americans want to make money doing their job. Truth is Americans don't want to spend money. So If Your shopping for something, say a widget and the store sells two different brands, one proudly made in the States, and one made in China, what one do you choose?
Sad truth of it is, even if the price is only a $1 different, most will buy the cheaper one (China). And these same people will wonder what happened to American jobs.

No we just have a higher standard of living and it cost more to live in the best country in the world. Soon those 5 cent an hour china men will be too expensive and they will look to the 3 cent an hour indian worker.

This is strictly about greed. We have already proven, that we as Americans are already the most productive worker in the world. As stated above we have a higher standard of living than the rest of the world and it does cost more to do business here. I try to buy everything American if possible. Our country greatly needs a manufacturing sector. Not everyone is technical minded and as a society we need to prosper at all levels, so that everyone can carry their own weight.
