Brake controller mounting

Ok, so I have searched around on here and don't seem to find any threads on where a good mounting location is for an aftermarket trailer brake controller on these 3rd gens. Was going to put mine in this today, but can't decide where to put it that it will be out of the way yet still easily accessible. So anybody who has them installed post up some pics so I can get some more ideas. I'm just drawing a blank right now:S: Thanks everyone.

Mounted mine on the panel below the steering wheel on the right side. Doesn't interfere with getting in or out of the truck or anything, and is easily within reach for adjustment. I forget it's there sometimes..

I stuck mine on the bottom of the knee bolster on the left side. Used the screw for the bottom of the bolster to mount the bracket and then mounted the actual controller set back in the bracket so I don't crack my knee/shin on it. It's in front of the OBD connector but it only takes a second to remove it if needed so I didn't worry about it. It doesn't interfere with the parking brake pedal either. I just didn't want to drill a hole in the panel where it would show if I sell the truck later on. I actually have mounted all of them like this and haven't had any trouble. It's easy to read and also in the open to reach so I can hit the trailer brakes alone if needed, which I have had to do a couple times over the years. Biggest reason I mount it there and the second reason is so I don't crack my knee or shin getting in/out (long legged).

Well thanks for the ideas, unfortunately I have looked at those spots and just don't like them... My wife is only 5 ft. tall and drives with the seat waaaaay up there, and I checked it out with her in it and she will definately smack her knee if it is on the right side of the column, and we are on crappy enough roads (mud mostly) that I'm afraid if I mounted it on the bottom with one of the screws I would cover it in mud from my overshoes... Thanks for the ideas though. Any more creative places?

There's that little cubby space near the cup holder area..sort of a 10x6(ish) spot. It's not very deep, but if your good w/ a drimmel you can trim out enough to at least slide some of the brake controller in there. I think there's some space behind it--but check first.
I thought about this area, but in the end, did like everyone else did.

well provided you have a manual tranny with or without manual 4wd you can mount it under in front of the 4 wd shifter to the underside of that overhang there is enough room all the way over to the driver side of it that you can mount a brake box :) .... lol give me a day or so and i'll post a pic but its out of the way and easy to get to and I agree im sorry everyone else but I HATE when people mount the brake box to the knee bolster.....

I will look into that cubby/overhang in front of the 4WD shifter, cause yes it is a manual, with manual 4WD shifter. I kind of thought about putting it there, but thought it would be in the way when going into 4LO. And some pics would be great, thanks. Thanks again everybody, keep the ideas coming...

I mounted mine over the ash tray. Don't smoke so never used.

If you do not need to adjust it very often and pull a relatively similar load each time, extend the harness and hid it in the glove box.

I pull a wide array of loads and trailers. I put mine on the bottom left of the knee panel as far from the CB as I could ( supposedly causes radio interference???). I dont like my setup now because I keep catching my foot on it when I set the parking brake.

Thanks for the replies. And that is why I am asking for ideas, because every place I come up with and mock it up there, I hit it with something...

Been a while ago now, but I finally mounted it to the top of the "cubby" in front of the
4WD shifter. JUST enough room to go into 4LO, as long as you grab the side of the shift knob and not the top...But you have to stop to put it in 4LO anyway, so a little extra time there won't hurt. And the best thing is that it is out of the way and won't be getting hit by feet/legs. Thanks to all who replied with ideas...

Just wondering if you could post a pic.... Would like to see how it looks considering i need to mount one soon

I dont know how it is in the 3rd gen, but in my 2nd gen I cut out the inside of the ashtray and mounted it in there. It flips up and hides when not in use, and flips down when I need it. Just a thought.

Since the interior changed between 2005 and 2006, I'm guessing that the spot on the right side of the steering column mentioned by several 2003 owners doesn't exist on the 2006-2007 models.

FWIW, I mounted my Prodigy P3 on the upper left knee panel, right below the headlight switch. I popped the little dummy cover off of the dash where the power pedal switch was supposed to be mounted, and ran the controller cable through that hole and right into the back of the P3. I have never hit it with my knee, but it does stick out enough where I could see someone else kneeing it while climbing out.

With that said, I am on the record saying that I *hate* the P3 because it only has a single-axis accelerometer inside. This means that it doesn't work great unless it is mounted horizontally, and mounting it where I did is pretty close to its 70-degree maximum permitted mounting angle. On my list of things to buy is a Hayes G2 controller, which is tri-axis and looks like it will mount flatter than the P3 in the place where I have it mounted.....
