I have a 1999 Monaco motor coach with the 5.9 ISB 275 engine. Trying to determine if I have a 53 block I checked at the front left and right sides of the engine and found a large 6 on the left side just above the oil pan, where I understand the casting mark to be. I can find no references to a block casting "6". Can anyone enlighten me to the significance of that number?

Are you certain it is just a 6 ?

The series ran out a while...53,54,55,56 being the last i know if besides the mexican blocks with stamped id's

If you don't see it on the front of the engine near the oil pant you might be able to pull the serial number and call Cummins.

There should be a big wire loom in covering some of it, if you see a large "6", i bet there's a 5 in front of it. Regardless, the 56 blocks don't carry the same concern as the 53.

I checked again and looked all around the lower portion of the block, immediately above the oil pan bolt flange - forward and aft. It is in fact a big (1" tall) number 6. Also found a number series O7624D immediately above the 6. The engine serial # is 45764483. Obviously I don't have a 53 block, but now I am curious as to just what the 6 represents, as well as the number series above the 6.

If you are not leaking water, i would not worry for two reasons-
If it is a 53 block, it must be a good one as has not broke ,
2, - are you going pull a 53 block Just cause it is a 53 block?
Not all of them cracked.
