Any idea how much it would cost to convert a 2WD to a 4WD?

I found the perfect truck that I've been looking for, it's got new engine, tranny, banks, '98, 12 valve, 3.54 gears. Only problem is it's 2WD.

Any have any idea as to how much it would cost to convert to 4WD by a shop? Or by myself?

Which parts would I have to change?

I figure I need a new tranny, transfer case, front axle, driveline, any thing else?

What make the 4WD higher than the 2WD?

does it have a straight axle or not, mine did and i have spent so far and I'm not done yet
500.00 dana 60
1000.00 trans but selling, the 2wd
250.00 shifter,lingage,bezels, drive shaft
1000.00 241 dhd transfer case
all new ball joints, bearing, seals 300.00
New Clutch & Flywheel, let's just say I got a good deal on this one.

Its not going to be cheap, put it that way. I would look for a 4wd truck thats got a junk motor and try to pick it up cheap and transplant the drivetrains.

Then if your lucky you could sell the 2wd clunker to help pay for the beer you drank while doing the swap!

You could sell the Banks while your at it :thumbsup

I don't know how much it costs, but I had a suburban that was a 4wd conversion, it worked great and you'd never have known it was a 2wd.

Why would you need a new tranny?

Gasser wold be far different than a diesel. But yeah There's ALOT of banks haters around here. I've never tried any of the Banks stuff, so I can't judge.

Nothing wrong with the banks product, its just that you pay out the azz just for the name. You can spend half the money somewhere else and make the same, if not more power...

If you want to swap the engine into a 4wd truck, the easiest route would be a same generation cummins truck, but if your not fortunate enough to find one and with a little work it wouldnt be a hard swap into the old 12v trucks or 24v trucks. If you were to swap from a gasser you will end up with some of the same problems you have converting 2wd to 4wd (trans is the big one)

I’m right on the verge of buying this truck, but don’t know for sure if I should.

The truck has 104,000 miles on it, but the engine is a remanufacture engine from Cummins installed by Dodge with 7,500 miles on it still under warranty with an owner installed Banks PowerPack. I figure that it would probably be a lot easier to find a 4x4 truck that I want I just switch the engines and the Banks system with this one, rather than trying to swap every single component of the drive train. I was talking to Jerry McClain about it and he said even the frame is different from the 4x4 to the 4x2. After I do the engine and banks swap I could sell the 4x2 truck and be left with a 4x4 with a sweet engine. The guy is asking $14,000 bottom price for the rig.

Anyone know if the warranty would still be good on the engine if it changes trucks?

You guys think I should go for it?
