A/C, Cool not Cold

Ok I know there are a few threads on the A/C units in the 6.7L's, but nothing that I have seen with issue of new trucks simply not blowing cold air. I live in Northern Va, and its hot but not crazy compared to other states. My issue is when I turn on the a/c it is cool but not cold. It takes forever for the cab to cool down and if it does end up at a nice temp I'm literally at my destination.

This is my first Ram/dodge. I am wondering if these trucks a/c systems are just not what I was expecting, or do I have an issue that needs to be addressed at the dealer.

I am comparing to my old 2006 Silverado, which would cool the cab to an ice box in what seemed like minutes.

Any help, suggestions.... Thanks

It does. Half the time a get a squeak from it, which I have read on here is pretty common.

It blows cool air, I just expected much cooler.

Maybe my expectation for the a/c were just to high?

Your fan clutch squeaks? That's not common, unless the bearing behind it is going out, or the fan clutch is completely shot. If your fan clutch is not working properly, you won't get proper airflow over your condenser, and you'll never have cold air.

It may be low on freon. Mine would blow cool if it was below about 75 outside and just warm air past that. Added some freon and its much better. Still not ice cold but it'll do for now.

I have looked for any kind of possible leaks with no visible evidence of one. The truck is a year old with 19.5K miles on it. From the start it hasn't seemed to be that cool.

I just don't want it to sit at the dealer for 4-5 days if its a normal thing.

suppose charging the system won't hurt though.

thanks fella's

Also, make sure you turn on the "recirculate" button as it just continues to cool the in cab air instead of trying to cool down the outside air.

While driving around check the supply air temp it should range from 42 to 45 degrees
while in recirculating mode and Max

I have a general knowledge of everything but I'm no where near an expert by any means.

I'm just trying to get a general idea of the possibility of something not working properly or my expectation just being to high.

After running more than an hour of driving I can freeze out my whole family with fan set on 2 and temp set on coldest setting without max cool. Can't run max cool or they all want blankets. I'm comfortable there. Some of us just run warmer on the personal thermostat... But you should be able to freeze yourself out on a long trip. The A/C should be able to drop air temp about 30* from "room temp" vs air from vent temp after running 5-10 min. Yes I was disappointed with fan performance as it doesn't move air under setting 4.

Go down to the dollar store and buy a cheap meat thermometer that reads into the freezing range 32*F. With the truck running on lowest temp setting ,vents on dash ,recirculate on ,and the thermometer IN the vent. You should have a reading close to 45*F. If it's above that have someone hook a/c gauges to it , both high and low sides.

Well it appears the A/C is working just fine. Blowing at around 46 +/-. As stated above (foxfury)^^^^^ the fan isn't moving the air as expected. I literally have to have the fan full blast to feel it.

Have your fan clutch checked, I was getting a "very high pitched whistle, almost a squeak" on mine but only when the fan would engage (don't ask how long it took it narrow it down) my mech. put his computer on and it took some time but finally got the info he was looking for, when the fan was engaging, the fan speed would drop by almost 600 rpm's, don't know about yours but for mine right now the fan clutch is a stealership iteam only! $500.00+ (my mech price was $420 something) but then found out that you can also just replace the bearing to for about half that.

I went over Siskiyou and Sexton summit's the other day, the coolant and oil temps went up to 215,and the AC was not working well either. I checked the fan clutch today,it is easy to stop the fan, before and after the AC is turned on,like in the youtube videos.
Do I need to wait for the truck to come up to 190 before troubleshooting by this method, or is it OK to diagnose by this method on a cold engine?
Thanks.

When I did this video engine was cold. Fan clutch was bad with engine cold not so much at operating temp.
