48re wouldnt shift gears anymore out of nowhere, can get under the truck and shift by hand but something is broken in the linkage somwhere I assume. Truck is 4x4, the column shifter feels loose except it will sometimes register neutral if I move it around some. Idk if I broke a cable or what but I definitely need some help.

If you can shift by hand sounds like cable, but should disassemble column cover and make sure nothing broke in there,
No truck info , Rock auto should have new oem which is what I would buy.

I have it now, pulled entire linkage and cable was broke at the column, my handy dandy welder is making short work of fixing it temporarily.
Gearshift Adjustment Procedure
1. Shift transmission into PARK.
2. Release cable adjuster lock tab (3) (underneath the
steering column) to unlock cable.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Disengage the cable eyelet from the transmission
manual shift lever.
5. Verify transmission shift lever is in PARK detent by
moving lever fully rearward. Last rearward detent is
PARK position.
6. Verify positive engagement of transmission park
lock by attempting to rotate propeller shaft. Shaft
will not rotate when park lock is engaged.
7. Snap the cable eyelet onto the transmission manual
shift lever.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Lock shift cable by pressing cable adjuster lock tab (3) downward until it snaps into place.
10. Check engine starting. Engine should start only in PARK and NEUTRAL

I have a question related to this.
on my 06 when i drop it into drive it seems to drop below drive so the light doesn't light up and does not go into any gear. its like its notched below drive, any idea what part this is?
