Wow! 30 mpg would be awesome. Don't know if it is quite possible on a CR. Sure someone else will chime in.

I think everyone would like to hear the answer to that question! If they can get that kind of milage then I think I need to go buy one. I think you are looking more at 20 MPG than 30.

Say it with me.....

H-O-N-D-A

:peelout
I just hand calculated 37.2 MPG's in my ghetto cruiser. :peelout

I am fortunate to be able to use my truck as a SECOND vehicle.

On topic, if you want 30 MPG's the process is simple. Get at the top of a BIIIIIIIIIIG hill, shift transmission to "N", commence to coasting. That is about the only way.

Coast down a long hill in neutral, and have it towed up the next hill and coast down. If you find a way let us know my best has been between 18 to 20.

your telling me they can maybe hit 20??? then whats the point of having 1 i thought they were susposed to get better milage then a stroker???
:peelout im getting 24 mpgs with my 03 f250 powerstroke crewcab.:peelout

24 is possible, but it's very very rare if it even is correct.

You are about 8 MPG higher than most I've heard about with a Ford. The Company I work for uses Fords and they get about 16-18 empty and 12-13 towing a tool trailer.

Are you figuring the milage by hand or using the computer?
True, my old 7.3 got a best of 18 or so on the 35's. Overheads are not always right, and hand calculations are about as good as guessing.

I have on several occassions got that on my truck. I've driven 3 different PS & not only are they sluggish, but their mpg are horrible when towing on the interstate. Why do I think Stroker was sent over to do some bashing???
PS isn't really sluggish unless it's stock. MPG towing are a heck of a lot better than a gasser so what if it's not as good as our Cummins trucks.

OH, there's actually an article kind of about this in the new Diesel Power Mag. It's about a guy with a PSD that's tryin to make the best fuel economy. He's gotten up to 26 mpg. It's a 2wd 6 speed one ton extended cab. He changed the differential to a 3.08 instead of the 3.73, filled with Amsoil. (60 mph @ 1450 rpm!!!) added a "large aftermarket air filter" (looks like a BHAF), 4" exhaust, "disabled backpressure valve on turbo", added a 203 degree thermostat which puts the engine at warmer temps. (says that itself improved mileage by three quarters of a gallon, whatever that means probably means 3/4 mpg). Replaced all engine coolant with waterless coolant, and a "custom burned chip" that decreases fueling and advances injection timing under 2000 rpm. He lowered the pickup 3" in front and 4" in back and put a big air dam from an excursion on the front and built a big cover to cover the bed and keep air flowing over and not building up. And he put 225's on for the tires. He makes 26 mpg.
I read that too. But I wonder how much time and money he spent on all that crap. Not to mention how stupid it looks. By the time he went through all the time and money he could have just bought a Cummins and got nearly the same.

All in all the chances of getting 30 at least 50%....or heck even a 25% of the time you drive it is about as good as getting 24 in a 7.3 10% of the time....it's just not really going to happen realistically

thats fine ill stay on the powerstroke web site there pretty cool about that stuff over there.....:peelout

Well I really hate ford myself I do have my reasons but however The 7.3motors are not bad if you are getting that mileage pulling a 32 foot

one thing to say

DONT you are doing just fine!!!

30 is a little hard for a 7000lb+ truck

#12 ·
I guess if ya stripped the truck down to next to nothing , only drove on level groung ,kept the rpm's below 1500 , kept your speed below 55mph , kept your filters perfectly clean , only use the purest diesel fuel , only drive on days with no wind and lived in an area at sea level....you could see mid to upper 20's ....other than that.....I have no clue.
If anyone else knows how to do it....please share your secret !

you have gottin 30mpg???????

#15 ·
No, it posted really slow for some reason. I have got 24 on several occassions. I have got way more, but it was down hill. Even 24 is hard in a brand new Ford let alone w/ a trailer behind ya. I cal BS!!!

can you please show me where i said that i got 24 with a trailer behind me?????

Sorry, read too many posts today. 16 - 20 mpg. I see the light now. That is comparable to what I have got on the Dodge. I much prefer the pep that the Dodge has over the Fords though.

Dad has a 00 7.3 350 drw crew, and the best to date is 19mpg...and 8-10mpg with a 40ft. 5er and he drives like an old lady :lol3: i told him if he ever needed some real power to call me :rof

This can be done! A few months ago I drove from Orlando to Naples, 2 short trips across town, and back. Drank 17 gallons of fuel and returned with 470 miles on the odometer. REMINDER... there are no hills in florida!!! I kept the RPM's under 2,000 at all times and never traveled above 60 miles per hour.

I had an '01 7.3L Powerstroke Auto Super Cab. Other than a K&N Air Filter it was bone stock. There's plenty hills where I'm at, but never pulled anything with him. I was getting around 19-21 MPG when I traded him off.

There you go with that "him" stuff again! You crack me up:lol3:

Stroker, where do you live? I'd like to know because it has to be all down hill! No way you can tow a 32' rig and get 20 MPG.

Sorry if I sound a little disbelieving but I am. I have a business partner that has an 01 7.3 4x4 with a manual tranny and he gets 16-18 empty. The same as all our company trucks.

How do you drive that results in that kind of mileage?

#23 ·
IF I go VERY light on acceleration and keep my highway speed down below 60mph, I can average just under 20mpg.

But 30mpg?? That is what my wife averages in her gas VW Passat that weighs about 1/2 of a CTD.

And 16-20mpg pulling a 32' camper???????????? Off a cliff?

#25 ·
I average 17-18 and I drive pretty hard. My friend drives about the same with a PSD '01 I beleive. Six speed 4wd versus my 5 speed 4wd. His crew cab LB vs. my extended cab LB. He makes 12-13 if he's nice to it... Anyways... I'm a little curious. If you had a 5 speed say 97 model or so with the 12V, and you didn't turn up the fuel any but put a cold air and maybe different turbo and bigger exhaust, in other words everything to improve airflow to the engine, could you maybe get around 25 mpg or more?

.... I bet a cummins with this stuff could make 30!

I would think that these changes could result in some impressive mpg #s. But he is probably driving like he has a very sensitive part of his anatomy under his right boot. Day to day driving like this, while being considerate to the folks piled up behind you, might be difficult. (we live in a seasonal tourist area and the out-of-staters driving at 1/2 the speed limit while looking at everything but the road drives me nuts) I am pretty gentle on fuel consumption- but driving so carefully to squeeze every inch out of a gallon of diesel doesn't seem like real life to me.

talked to a guy around me has a 6.0 stroker with 6inch lift,35's intake exhaust, and an edge evolution progrsmmer getting 22 as his best. i told him i would pray to get that in my dually ,he said he just drives sensable, doesnt rip on it

We have a MNTDR member that regularly gets 26mpg. He has gotten almost 28 once. He is just over 300hp. Meticiously (sp?) maintained, with a WHIFF of propane. I believe he said he uses 3 gallons of propane with each fill of Diesel. He also runs a mixture of BioDiesel.

The Truck, a 97 12v, regular cab, long bed, 4x4. He weighs in around 7500lbs with his extra fuel tank, goose neck hitch and other goodies.

put some 245/70 tires on it..... some kind of bed cover......

keep the RPMS under 2K under 60 MPH....

4in straight exhuast and a nice drop in filter... and I bet you would be up there....

not sure if you would hit 30 though... maybe 25
