finally recieved a call from a small town dealer ordered a new truck in october it arrived with 9 miles on it and they called and said 4x4 light was on and also found fillings in rear diffirental they found that the harness connection had a bad bent metal connection ordered new harness now they said they are going to flush rear diff and replace drive shaft seal is this a good way to remedy the rear diff or should i be concerned as i havent even seen truck yet.should i have something in writing or documented in case of future problems.any advise would be appreciated

Well obviously your truck, your call. If it was mine, I'd pass on it.... That whole thing just sounds too bizarre for me (imho). I mean jeez, brand new '14 that you haven't even seen or driven yet? What prompted them to even look at the differential fluid and find "fillings"?

Why would they check rear diff fluid because 4x4 light is on? That should be in the transfer case. I would run, not walk from that one.

Maybe it has 3.73 rear axle ratio and 4.10 front axle ratio... :spank:

yeah look for another truck

If it has metal shavings in the fluid, they will usually go to the bottom and/or collect on the magnet. If a bearing has failed, the fluid will look like it has silver spray paint in it. That suspended grit will contaminate every bearing in the rear end. In that case have them put in a complete new assembly or have them find you another truck. I wouldn't trust a flush & fill.

STOP!!! PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!!! TURN AROUND, AND RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!:rof Any kind of thing like this I would demand another vehicle, no if's, and's or but's. A vehicle is not suppose to arrive at your dealer with 9 miles on it and have multiple mechanical or electrical issues that need to be addressed. As someone who dealt with a transmission issue on a 2010, (I'm sure started within 500 miles of being new), I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'm sure if you consult your Attorney, he will confirm that you don't have to accept delivery and sign the completed contract for the vehicle. Our contract in Colorado also states, once you sign and take the vehicle you do not have the standard 3 days to return under buyers remorse, "No" cooling off period, and if contract is not completed your entitled to your deposits returned in full.

An hours worth of your Attorneys time $150.00 to $300.00 is a far wiser investment than enduring the trials and tribulations of a P.O.S. vehicle from the factory. Please consult your Attorney, you have been given a huge "heads up" before your committed to this truck. I cannot tell you the headaches we endured with that 2010 and the more we drove it the more problems surfaced. With my hard hardheadedness, I don't give up on mechanical things easily, but that 2010 kicked my A$$. Let us know and good luck.

If there are already metal shavings in the differential, with only 9 miles on it, there is something SERIOUSLY wrong... If a bearing is so messed up it is doing that, it should have some telltale signs. As others have mentioned, I would want to know how they came to find the shavings.

My first thought is that the housing didn't get cleaned properly after the machining was done. I would think the chances of that happening are very small, but stranger things have happened...
The 4x4 light being on isn't something I would worry about to much, as long as they fix it.
The screwed up wiring harness can be fixed. It was caused by sloppy work on a assemblers part. Either the harness was messed up before it was installed, and nobody noticed it, or someone doesn't take much pride in their work.

I guess all three things can be taken care of, but if this thing already has these problems right off the truck, I would put money on it that the rest of the truck wasn't assembled much better. I would pass on it. With the money we pay for these pickups, you should leave the dealership being 100% satisfied with everything. That includes not having to wonder what the next thing to screw up will be.
It can happen to any of them, but it's not a good way to start out

How odd this thread came up, i just took my 14 dually in becuase the pinoin seal is leaking pretty bad. 2500 miles on the clock, less than 6 weeks old! I have a crappy dealer and they did not even look at it today. It just sat there. They will try agian next week. I cant leave it, as i use my truck for work everyday. I will post up what they find.
