I would like to know this too.

Also is it beneficial on the 2012 to add another fuel pump to help push fuel to the engine, like the FASS systems with the pump, and two extra filters.

Good question!!! That is something else I was wondering, If I am not planning on going high horse power do I really need another pump like the Fass or something. I have searched but there are varying opinions on this subject!!!

Pumps are designed to Push, not Pull. Which is why the old pumps failed. So it was always a good idea to add a pusher pump to the stock set up, so the main pump at the engine did not fail.

That said, I am not fully versed yet on the 2012 fuel set up. I think the pump is in the tank now? If it is, maybe it is not helpful to add another pump to the system.

I also have to add that more filters is not always better. More filters, especially filters filtering down smaller then factory can cause a fuel flow restriction..... unless you add more fuel pressure to over come the lower pressure form the added filters restrictions.

At what point more filters become a restriction to the system is debatable.

I am a FIRM believer in better fuel filtering for high pressure fuel systems like our High Pressure Common Rail set ups. With todays dirty fuel, 23,000 psi fuel pressure injection set ups any tiny dirt that gets by will ruin injector tips, and eventually lead to major repairs.

I ordered this one. Going to put it on next time I'm home.

Cummins Cat Filter

Donaldson Filter P551313 shows its rated as 99% @ 3micron.

Edit: I believe the Cat filter is rated at 4 micron now instead of 2.

$249, wish this was a done kit when i did mine, would of saved some penguins from jumping off the iceburg :hehe:, I just made a bracket that bolted in the existing frame mount for the dodge set up , kind of a pain starting from scratch but worked out ok. I run the same 2 filters ended up being $130 into it

I agree its more cost efficient as a DIY. I'm away from home most of the time. So its definitely easier for me to have everything ready when I get there. Where did you get you're hoses? They're pretty looking.

I go home on Christmas Eve. I'm going to service my transmission then too. So hopefully I'll some feedback before the first.

I'm in NW florida, I try to stay away from that area, too cold for me. I end up in NM/CO but thats about it for my winter trips. Some of the baldwin filters i know have a clear site glass/plastic at the bottom of them too. No issues with mine at all.

I'm running a fass setup, and I'm trying to find a way to run the factory filter also. Triple filters with more flow would be nice. Didn't need more fuel just wanted more filtration.

Is that the Cummins/Cat fuel filtration I saw you listed on a different posting you had? Post #7. If so, what do you think, I'm now looking to get one too. You seem to have good judgment on what works, and what does not.

Yes sir I'm pretty sure it would be. My memory must be going didn't remember posting it before this thread.  But I've been looking at this one for a while just been putting it off. Seems like there's a few people with it that have no complaints.

63boxtop is your in the same location? Bolted to the drivers seat bolts? I was thinking the skid plate would cover their kit also.

Yes it is. The HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) is a Bosch CP3.

The pressure I'm talking about monitor in this case is. The pressure from the lift pump in the diesel tank. To the CP3 itself on the motor.

I'm also looking to get a frame mounted filter kit like the ones that have been shown in this thread. The only thing I am concerned about is freezing, gelling or waxing. I see that the Mopar severe duty filter setup has a heater. Is the heater worth it? Has anyone from a colder climate had trouble with a frame mounted filter setup freezing, gelling or waxing??

Got the big line kit from GDP. And the stuff from Edge to monitor the pressure ordered. I might do the big line kit and gauge setup first for a comparison on pressure drop with the added filters.

Camperman: I also have been looking at the cat/cummins filter kit. Do you have any concern with fuel gelling with out a heater on the frame mounted filters?

#42 ·
I should have it installed by the first of the year. I'll let yall know how it goes. And what I find on the pressure.

#44 ·
I got the cummins cat filter kit.

I got the big line kit from GDP. It replaces the line from the stock filter housing to the CP3 pump. Also comes with bigger fittings. Just allows for more fuel to flow.

10-14 Big Line Kit

This has been a great read so far. Adding extra fuel filtration is on my list for spring projects. I am looking forward to seeing the installs. I do have a a question though...

Does adding a dual filter setup require replacing the fuel line from the pump in the tank?
