Ok so I bought my 06 less than a week ago, Truck started runing rough and I noticed in the high rmps that it smoked way to much to be stock. I borrowed my buddys bullydog to see if the truck had a programmer on it such as a superchip, and sure enough it said vin mismatch when he tried to download the bullydog. The truck is completly stock other than that, stock exhaust, everything. I believe that it is a mileage or towing tune, since it isnt very aggressive. Since the dealer didn't notify me at the time of the sale that aftermarket parts were installed I should have some leverage to either return the truck or have it flashed and have all injectors checked and replaced if need be? Any help on how I should dealer with the dealer? I really don't even want the truck after finding out it has a programmer on it. I don't feel comfortable paying 23k for a truck that has injection problems already. By the way there aren't any codes in the computer, and I'm getting around 26.7 MPG on overhead.

Never look at the over head. It lies! & I dont know much about the bull dog's but if there anything like how the smarty works is you cant use a smarty on another truck until you have returned the truck back to stock settings. Maybe the bulldog wasn't returned to the stock settings and it said "vin mismatch" and didn't work? Just a guess idk. Goodluck!

How many miles are on it? The 06's are known injector problems along with electrical issues. These trucks are a dog when stock and any tow setting is hardly worth getting in a fuss over. Pressure boxes an dirty fuel ruin injectors, not timing and duration. You can have it reflashed back to stock and then get your own programmer. The over head is known to be a "liar" and you're probably getting better mileage than if you didn't have a tune. Good luck on finding a 3rd gen that hasn't had a tune, much less a stock exhaust.

Maybe I am over reacting a bit, but my 01 was modified, and it was a hunk of absolute sh*t, truck just hit 98k. and the bullydog was erased off my buddys truck and then plugged into mine. If my truck had a smarty then it would allow the bullydog to continue, so there must either be a superchip or a hypertech on it. How much hope do I have in convincing the dealership that the programmer may have caused damage to the injectors, and that they need to fix? I'm am not completely sure of injector damage, but it seems very likely with the rough idle the truck is having

YOU must be kidding ME. You got your panties all wadded up because you obviously didn't inspect the thing before you bought it, and now the dealer is at fault for selling you a truck that apparently has a programmer on it?:confused013:

 Any jack wagon can tell if the truck is programmed on the test drive, if you had your head up your a$$ and didn't realize it, or just neglected a testdrive to begin with, sorry bud, but you're on your own.

That said, the truck was likely sold as-is. So...you're on your own. Again.

Again, that said, what in the hell makes you think the injection system is damaged? If you REALLY have that big of a problem with it, and REALLY want to drive a gutless turd with stock programming and likely will get less mileage than it does programmed, feel free to wake up in the morning, pop a couple Midol's or whatever it is you ladies take for that time of month, hop in the truck, cruise on over the dealer, and ask real nicely for them to flash a stock program in it. Go in and act like a douche like you did here, and they are going to tell you to f*** off.

I'll await the "my truck gets chit mileage and has no power, what programmer should I get" or ensuing "Smarty or EFILive" thread that may appear down the road...

Oh, and 06's aren't "known" to have injector issues, so nice try there.

This guy ^^^^^ haha lmao. Sorry if I went against your beliefs bud. I just got a problem with paying 23k for a truck that has problems and I guess I'm a jack because I'm not a total diesel expert as you are or as you portray yourself. Just wanted some helpful input, don't claim to know everything about diesels and I don't even try, you got me there

Easy Easy Timmy :hehe:

O I just have one thing to add...This is a diesel which cost more money. If you ain't got money to fix it when it breaks don't buy it.

If it has a programmer on it then you should of noticed that on a test drive..You can not tell us you got in a diesel truck, took it for a ride and did not look for smoke :hehe:

But like said before take it back and see if they will do a flash on the ECM

The truck honestly didn't feel programmed to me but what do I know I'm just a jack wagon. And It only smokes at about 2800 rpm, and I only got it up that high today when I wanted to see if it would act up. Dose not smoke at all under normal driving conditions. The truck just vibrates at idle, yes I know its a Cummins and they all rattle, but this one more so than others. It shakes so bad that it vibrates all the mirrors in the truck, my buddies 06 and 05 runs smooth as can be. And no it did not vibrate like this when I bought it, I'm not completely stupid, just partially

Ok, maybe I was a little rough. I did try to throw some humor in there so I didn't come off as a complete a$$:hehe: So sorry for that.

I really don't think you can return the truck, as-is means as-is; some will work with you if there are issues, some won't. I really doubt the truck is damaged in any way, if the trans shifts fine, you're very likely ok.

Yes, the CR trucks can have issues (I'm on engine number 5 out of two trucks...) but it's VERY possible to up the power and never have an issue.

So, if you feel so inclined (I'll admit, I'd be a little sketchy having an unknown adder in there myself), go get a stock file flashed in. You may get it free if you talk nicely to the dealer, you may get charged the full ~$75 to flash it. But if it worries you enough, that $75 is a HELL of a lot cheaper than a rebuild.

I think I need a Midol myself, I'm on some rants tonight:rof :S:

It's all good man, if you could only know the troubles I had with my 01 you would understand, at this point I don't care a bit about power, I just want my truck to run right and last a good long while, extra power is nice, and If you can afford to play than more power to you, but I don't until my payments are over. :$:

IF you had an '01 problem money child Cummins, you must have known about searching diesel forums and researching a truck buy for problems prior to purchase.

not the truck lot owner's problem here, it's a lazy buyer who failed to do due diligence. shiny pretty paint doesn't mean shhiiittteee on these but makes boys cream their pants.

face the facts, you bought someone else's worn out tits up hot rodder truck that they dumped. fact is, if these HPCR Cummins aren't maintained correctly and treated well, they'll bankrupt the average owner

I'm calling BS on this thread

They will probably just reflash it for you. That and change oil and filter/fuel. Never hurts to make sure it was done!

if your gettting a vibe at idle it sounds like your dmf is going south. The only issue the 06 and 07's where known for is the injector harness shorting out. I wouldnt trust the bd to be the thing that tells you its been programmed. Go have it reflashed and start from scratch. The luck your having is what happens when you buy used.

I'm with going to have it re-flashed, and make sure it's got a new fuel filter, clean air filter, and change the oil.

I've noticed my '06 starts to idle rough when the oil gets old.. not even sure how that's related, but it's happened twice now already. Not badly rough, but definitely noticeable.

BTW, what's a dmf? ^^

:agree2: One of our trucks was perfect one week and the next week it was about to shake to pieces because the dmf failed.
