Hey guys have a few questions. I'm running an 03' 2500, Cummins and NV5600 tranny From what i know it is bone stock except for some kind of Aftermarket Exhaust 3.5" from downpipe to tranny crossmember then 4" back to a 30" long 6" in diameter, straight through muffler and finished off with a six inch tip ( the tip was my add on). I add all of that exhaust info so you know what i have under the rig

My commute is murder on a diesel 80 miles a day of nothing but big hills and 55-60MPH i almost never have a chance to run this rig hard. and almost never get to go above 2000RPM. Its just an ergonomic trap for this poor truck. Anyway on my trip up and down these hills im noticing that under load( going up hill) and giving it fuel to power up the hill im noticing a sound similar to what a V8 gas makes with a performance muffler( pop pop pop pop) Verry Verry annoying.

I have been around these trucks all my life and have never herd one make this noise (that said all of the others were straight piped) Could the muffler be causing this strange sound? if so im ripping that POS off.

Second issue is (and im hoping they are connected) the truck seems to be wet stacking badly ( army term used for clogged exhaust) The truck seems to be a bit sluggish and seems to get little to no boost, unless i get the rare occasion to put my foot in it. I dont feel any noticeable Boost untill 2500 RPM That seems a little late to be getting boost. isnt the turbo on the 03 smaller (seems like it would spool a lot sooner than 2500 RMP?????

Yesterday I pulled the inlet pipe off the turbo to make sure everything turned and it spins freely and has 0 feeling of grittyness or drag. (also remove the scilencer ring while i was down there):party018: Also check the blow off valve best I could the acuator linkage has no play and feels tight. all the boots seem to look solid also. Any ideas why im feeling sluggish?

So thanks for reading my book. Im a bit long winded but hey i tried to put you in the driver seat so ya know what im experencing.

Can you make a video of the popping?? Just kinda hard to help diagnose with just that...How hard are you getting on it? up in the 2500 range is hard IMO, and mine will pop some with the straight pipe. But i would consider it more of a "raspy" sound...:confused013:

Dont have a way to record the sound, wish i did. i didnt push it to 2500 but once B/C i was trying to see when i could feel the turbo it hasnt been that high but that one time. As far as the pop goes Im hearing it at 1500-2000+ RPM depending on the gear im in and the load on the engine. Best i can do is explain it. Example. Going up hill in sixth gear at 55 miles an hour when the engine lugs down a bit from pulling up hill is when i get the noise. So with this noise and the way my turbo is behaving im at a loss. wish i could get the turbo boosting at lower RPM

You should here and feel your turbo from I would think 12-1300 on up. I have several friends with 03-04's with the small turbo and they are nothing like your explaining...You may want to check for a boost leak..
