Hey all, with the temperatures starting to get a little cooler, just wondering about what temperature range do you install the winter front on your trucks?

I install mine when the day time temps are in the 30's F range which is usually around DEC 1. I don't like crawling around on cold concert and working with my hands in the cold.

I usually leave all four flaps open and close them as the temps get colder but very rarely that I close off all four flaps. I am outside the Chicago IL area so you can get an idea about winter temps.

Yep, I install mine when the high temp doesn't get above 35 or so...
I still drive my '97, and it gets very cold in eastern, KS where I live. I almost never use any cold front, but sometimes will try a piece of cardboard between the trans cooler and the radiator, I cut a hole in the middle so the fan clutch doesn't get blocked. I can't see that doing this ever made any difference any way, and for the last ten years have used nothing at all. The truck takes forever for the heater to wake up, but the front didn't help at much, if at all. One year I took the fan off completely, and drove it all winter like that, and it still didn't make much difference, I did get better fuel mileage, because it takes HP to turn the fan, and it was quieter, but the cooling system is so big, it simply didn't need the fan when it was cold. Even when it warmed up, it only needed it for the AC condenser. But I have a new truck on order now, and I think the new ones have an electric fan anyway.

My winter front makes a huge difference in the way the truck heats up. It also allows my tranny to heat up since i deleted my heat exchanger on the side of the block.

Up here in northern BC, the winter front is a required item for me. Mine went on last weekend (-10 C at night) My old @ord 1-ton WON'T warm up in 45 min drive without it. The newer 6.7 heats up fairly quickly as the egr is still in service :confused013: but that will change soon. Just started plugging in the block heater tonight.
I usually put mine on when the high temperature is 40 deg. or below. The colder it gets the more flaps I close.
Here in Northern Ontario, we've had a few cold nights around -10'ish and daytime highs around 1-3 degrees but we keep having a few days in a row of 10 degree highs, looks like by the end of the week that'll be over, and I'll throw the winter front on, and keep the flaps open, until it gets colder
what kind/brand of cold fronts? Mopar, Lund, FIA, Covercraft.
I'm running the mopar one.
Anyone have a part number for the mopar front? I am sure a quick search i could find it just figured since we are all here...

If you want I can take a picture of mine tomorrow, if you want to see what it looks like on the truck
Yea if ya could that would be awesome!

Thanks in advance, bags
Thanks for the pics ill def have to invest in one!
My winter cover stays on for eight months of the year. Only when I tow I will have a flap open. A warmer motor = better combustion. Intake gets all the cold air it needs.
At -20c it gets plugged in at home. In the bush, oh well, it still starts @-40 with no issues.
Same went for my 97 12 valve.

I LIKE THAT ONE!!! Behind the grill! Is this the MOPAR winter front? For my wifes Dodge Ram sport ( 5.7 HEMI ), i use one of the winter fronts for one of our kenworths ( sits in shop all winter ). I just fold it accordingly and zip tie and works good. ( I SHOULD ADD I PLACED BEHIND THE GRILL, NOT COVERING UP FRONT AS THAT WOULD LOOK LIKE [email protected] ). We have quilted vinyl for our kenworths, not just the cheap smooth vinyl ones that are thin.

But for my cummins, i would much rather have something like above then zip tying another kenworth ( W900L model ) winter front on mine.

Yes, behind the grill is the mopar one (as in the picture). And it has the four triangles to close up the opening as required.

I preferred the look of behind the grill as well, which is why I went with the mopar one.

I like the look of the internal cover. When I looked up that part number it showed a picture of an external cover across the front grill.
Wrong picture on Mopar or different part number?

of course I could of screwed up the number. Noticing that more lately.
