I can move my shift lever into all positions but will not engage in 4wd. Dash does not even light up showing 4wd.

If i put the lever in 4WD I can't spin the front drive shaft so that eliminates the transfer case. The also is some type of solenoid on the passenger side of the axle. I can move it up and down freely. Has two wires goin to it and looks like 2 vaccum lines running to it from the top of the tranny. There is also a big line that runs up toward the motor and is plugged off by a plastic cap. Does this have anything to do with 4WD

The plastic lines running from the CAD ( central axle disconnect ) are vacuum lines that is what shifts the diaphragm that engages the axle. With it running and in 4wd check to see if you have vacuum at one of the lines.

The wires is going to a switch that lights up on the dash that it's in 4wd. Sometimes it won't lock in unless your moving a little or the axle grease is a little warm.

I had no vaccum at CAD. I unplugged it from tranny and found that it was plugged in wrong i had to turn the plug a quarter turn and plugge it back in. Working great now only thing is i still dont have the dash light come on but i can figure that out later just glad to have 4wd. I could have used it last night when i sunk the back wheels. Had to have 2 chevys yank me out. Not fun to hear there s. h. I. T.

Well at least it was a easy cheap fix. Next time it's in 4wd check to see if you have voltage on both terminals on the switch, if you do then your light could be out.
