Changing my OEM air filter and got alot of flack on FB over the nasty pic of it. I was shocked when I pulled it out too but I rely on the vacuum filter minder to tell me when the filter is starting to restrict flow. The filter minder was in the middle of the green range at this change and only recently got there after a few full load uphill climbs with the holiday trailer. I researched a bit this morning and found a bit of info to share. The OEM filter is large...3 in deep and big dimensions so there is alot of surface area. This could be why the filter minder did not show much restriction even though the filter was dirty on the front face the pleats were only moderately dirty. The OEM flows 670CFM at less than 0.5psi. The 5.9L turbo diesel consumes 563CFM at 1800 rpm at my cruise speed and 780CFM at 2500rpm. Knowing this, I would expect the stock filter to easily keep up to demand and negate any perceived benefit from an aftermarket "cold air" intake which is not getting colder air than OEM because they both draw from the fender area.
