Can anyone tell me why it is that diesel is so much more then gas when diesel takes less to refine, has less additives, and is a lower grade of fuel?
the only reason we pay 1/2 the price that other nations pay (for fuel) is our currency status. oil is traded in u.s. currency. . .we will pay equal, if not more, if/when other countries decide the u.s. dollar isnt worth using. thats when we lose our "world reserve currency status", and every1 flips out cuz commodities double in price overnight. . . .The bad thing is that while some oil producing countries keep the price low we are in the big picture not too bad off.
My Daughter lives in Ireland Diesel there is 1.33 Euro per Liter = $6.96 per Gallon! I also saw post by Wassas where Norway an Oil producing nation it is at about $8.80!
The price sucks, but it could be a lot worse!
assuming you must have copious amounts of time and experience in iraq (or another middle eastern country in the last 10 years), along with a thorough understanding of the entire middle east's history. . . .(which would be required to make such a bold statement that "speaks for all of us") i ask that you elaborate and educate the uneducated who dont have the vast experience you must have.We pay so much for fuel because of the monopoly, known as big oil and a $hitty government that does'nt stand up for its people. We all know we went to Iraq for oil not terrist. Now we control that oil and our prices are higher. Thanks Bush, Chenny, and good ol' Obamaladen.
They make the cheap disposable crap that nobody needs...The fact that the demand is so high over in areas like China, Indonesia and those areas has also driven the cost up world wide. They make everything... thus use a lot of fuel, thus driving the cost up.
there is the problem. there arent enough responsible voters (people who look at politicians records, not rhetoric to decide who they vote for) to do anything about any real issues. thats why we are in the boat we are in. and thats why we have the president we have. for too long politicians have manipulated the ignorant and the dependant. . .Pele... I'm in full agreement with you... But you listed a ton of stuff they make, that we buy and how do you think all that is made and transported... On top of the fact that like 80% of the cars and trucks over there for civilians (Lord knows how many of those there are) are on Diesel.
We (the USA) are sitting on what is projected to be as much or MORE oil than there is in the Middle East... why can't we use it? Hippies and the Liberals in Congress and the Oval Office. They just found a HUGE NEW oil field in N. Dakota (my buddy just left to go work it), and it's there, but they can't use it (he is building some piping out there or something). So i understand your frustration... Believe me I do, not a fan of what is going on. Voting is the only way (other than another war to fix it... so vote to stop what is going on)
The airline and shipping industry pay no tax? That's news to me! Royal Dutch Shell is on the brink of greatly simplifying the oil shale extraction process. If the estimates are accurate we'll derive 20-40% of our oil needs from the USA.My theory: The US military is the largest consumer of #2 diesel= no tax paid, The airlines and shipping industry us #2 and jet fuel (nearly the same)= no tax. The railroads use a tremendous amount of #2= no tax. Power plants, Farming, Mining account for a lot=no tax. The trucking industry uses millions of gallons per year and while they do pay tax they are able to simply add a fuel sir charge and pass it on.
Who does that leave to pay the tax? You and me.
