2 of my buddies have 3rd gens and they run down the rd so much smoother.

My question is. . .

Are the 3rd gen coil springs any differnt then the 2nd gens??

I would almost assume they would be the same size but possilby a differnt spring rate??

any help would be great thanks guys.

Truck wheelbase has ALOT to do with the ride. Are your buddies trucks longer than yours? Any lift or aftermarket shocks? These all make a BIG difference.

I have a couple buddies that have 3rd gens, ones a QC LB 2500 and the other is a QC LB 3500 single RW. They both ride much smoother than mine down the road, the one with the 3500 has a toy hauler with a pop up tent trailer at the front, the trailer is 25 ft or so. That trailer makes his 3500 squat pretty good, we hooked it up to mine and barley goes lower than level. They just don't seem to have the same pay load they used to in my opinion but way nicer on the highway

i got a friend that put a 4" lift on his truck, and wow its smooth now! so tempting, But IMO i would go with air bags! hard to put a big lift on and still be able to hook up to a fifth wheel trailer/goose neck

If you already have a couple jacks and something to block the front of the truck up while you drop the axles. Then I would say just go for it, it should only take a couple hours.

most of my buddies have 3rd gens short and long bed and they envy that my truck rides so smooth. i have biltseins all around and tonight im finishing the front bulletproof upgrade. i have a leveling kit with 33's. the small things make all the difference and my first recommendation is upfrading the shocks. i hope i can get airbags soon but for right now she rides great. better than most girlfriends ive had hahahaha

Second gens are real trucks. :D
:agree2:
And tires have alot to do with the ride as well, if ur running stockers with 70psi... it will ride rougher than some toyo a/t's with 50psi.

Get a carli starter system. You would be amazed how smooth you can make a 2nd gen ride.

Exactly! The front spring rates are softer and the rear leafs are longer. My '98.5 handled my popup pretty well stock, but my new one's weak. I had to go with aftermarket upgrades to make it safe to drive. Don Thuren's new softride coils should tame the 2nd's ride quite well. Carli uses his Hemi coils on the 2nds.

Something to think about...a quad cab 2nd gen is the same length (front door to rear of cab) as a 3rd gen 4 door truck!
I also swapped out stock springs for Carli hemi's and the ride is much better, stock springs are so stiff that you feel every bump, might as well have a solid rod in there instead of springs

I think that I have see on some of the old 2nd gens to the 3rd is that the 2nd gens have over load springs and the 3rd dont. also my stock 01 rides higher that my brother 04.

My '07 has a 4" longer wheelbase than my '98.5 to accomodate the bigger cab. Doesn't have as tight a turning radius. That's a tradeoff for a more spacious cab. Contributes to the softer ride also.

so will the 3rd gen coils work?
or will i have to get something liek the don thuren ones.

It feels like i actually have no suspension. its terrible.
I had the Kore Chase setup on my '98.5. It rode stiffer than stock. Go with the Carli hemi coils or give Don a call. .: THUREN FABRICATION :.
