Your asking a retorical question. As nobody really knows what they think about there oil because they simply don't know what it's doing until they do a complete engine tear down and analysis of wearing parts.

There's another thread on oil, my thoughts are in there.

with that said you can't go wrong with the oil you have chosen.
I've been using Mobil 1 since the early 90's. That after a tear down of a GM 454 with almost 200k on it..engine was spotless. So, now its in everything.
mobil 1 is probably the best oil in the petroleum world imo.
Mobil 1 has changed alot in the past few years... for the worse.
It used to be a top oil but If you look at the current market, the UOA results, and prices of oils, Mobil is just not the value it used to be.
Mobil is no longer a "full synthetic" as you would think, its more of a blend.
I use it...but I think I'm going to switch to Valvoline Blue cuz I am retarded and always change it at 7500 anyway

it's always been a blend, last i knew the only two true full synthetics are amsoil and royal purple, all the others have some sort of petroleum product in them.

Man that is one dead on accurate statement. As Mobil Inc. Is the 3rd party contractor for CAT brand oils. Over the course of the last several years it seems as though through testing I have personally seen with my own eyes that there quality control as far as cleanliness of the oil in a new jug has dropped!!! And half the time the oil ACTUALLY doesn't meet the standards that are on the jug(this goes for most all brands)

BUT with that being said the fact of the matter is the engine will still live with proper changing intervals--- longer than the truck will be alive or 3 owners after it sells on a car lot 5 different times.

Mobil 1 used to be a group 4 synthetic, but now it's a highly refined mineral oil basically.

The only other cheap/affordable group 4 I can think of is Castrol Syntec 0w30, the german made stuff.

castrol still has petroleum products in it making it a group 3 synthetic, it lasts longer than regular oils but still breaks down way faster then the group 4 synthetics.
Read what I said again ;)

Castrol Syntec 0w30, the german made stuff.

0w30 says made in germany on the bottle, the label is slightly different, and for the longest time it was green in colour and was indeed a group 4 oil.
wow glad i clicked on this one. i have used M1 TDT and thought i was getting full syn.........like yall said i have used it for many yrs. i didnt know about this recent down fall for M1

so its not a FULL SYN? i have used amsoil also .........so amsoil and RP are the only full syns out there?

First off.....

I like your signature "Wake up America"

Second of all.....yes there the BEST synthetics out there with Amsoil being on TOP.

Third.... Dont worry about running the M1....its still good oil and the engine will outlive you if you treat it correctly and properly service your rig at the correct intervals.

In other words No Worries Mate.

so i can still use the M1 and be ok i guess.........but is it a group 3 ?
You can run it, and im sure you will be ok. BUT there are much better oils out there. Amsoil being the top IMO. Penzoil Platinum is a really good synthetic also. RP is also.
Mobil One is not made from Group 3 base stock. It is mainly Group 4 polyalphaolephin with some Group 5 ester base oil.
That's what it used to be... M1 is a group 3 oil now, just like 99% of castrol syntec.

IC....

Even group 3 is a good standard....Especially for these engines!!

You could almost run pond water with alittle mud in these and they still would live :hehe:
Mobil 1 makes various grades of synthetic. Including a full synthetic. In fact it is factory fill and recommended on Mercedes Benz, Porsche and other makes. Amsoil is not the best oil.
Wow! Thanks for all the opinions guys. I am running Delo now and was just kicking around the idea of changing. I can get the Mobil 1 for cheap so i thought i'd ask. I thought I read that RP was not recommended by Cummins. I can get that also.
