Hi there,

I am just about the purchase a new truck. Been looking at the Cummins for quite some time now. I do lots of driving for my job, so I was wondering which cummins gets the best mileage out of the box? Or which cummins has the potential to get the best mileage? Not looking to haul anything huge either, and I dont need to maintain 70mph up hills. Looking for an extended cab, longbox 4x4.

I have done quite a bit of research on here.

I like the style of the 1994-2002 trucks, but that is secondary to fuel economy. I dont mind doing a few upgrades, (chip, intake, exhaust in the interest of economy either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am leaning towards a 1998 12v, but the NV5600 in the 01-02 sounds like a great tranny

Just go with the 12v be it 1st or 2nd Gen you can't go wrong with either
