Im looking to put a programmer on my 3500, but dont know which to get. Ive heard great things about the EDGE/Juice, but have also heard lots of bad things about ALL programmers...such as problems with HARD shifting (auto), and some rumours of people dropping the tranny's out of there trucks from there being too much power...hard to believe... all i have in my truck is the K&N intake kit, and 4" turbo back exhaust, so im starting from scratch.. plz gimme some suggestions.. thnx

ok,
1: fill out your signature so we know what you are running
2: it depends on what you want to do with your truck, whether its a play tuck or work truck, or whatever else in between will determine which programmer is best for you
3: now the rumors of people dropping transmissions out of their trucks are true but that is people running way to much power through a stock transmission. a buddy of mine had a programmer and then stacked two chips on it and dropped the trans within 20 minutes. so yes you can drop your trans but if you are careful you will be fine.

now in my opinion the best programmer for a cummins is a smarty it will produce tons of power and has by far the best adjustability from torque management, to rail pressure and several others.

before you start messing with programmer i would recommend getting gauges EGT, boost, and Trans temp if you have an auto

I only drive around 150miles a week, daily driver truck, the only thing i "haul" is my quad and small boat... ive been meaning to get the gauge pack, but thought i would wait until i got the programmer, since most of them come with digital gauges for EGT, boost etc.... i only hammer the pedal every once and a while, when needed (or wanted), but never rape the thing, babied if anything.....

You baby it now but just wait until you can blow smoke in a subaru's window at any speed. I used to baby mine too. Power changes a man. As for your question get gauges first or in a package deal with a programmer. Gauges will save even a stock truck.

ya, i just wanna have the little extra power to play...for now.... i dont plan on doing much more to the truck than a programmer until next year...(gotta buy a new damn house first...bullsh*t).....so i was just trying to get opinions on the best one, to give me a little more pep in my step until next year, seeing as i have stock tranny etc. ......

how much would a tri-cluster pack run me for the dash, in the spot under the cd deck? (EGT, boost, Tranny temp) anyone got a good site to visit to purchase the cluster?

I think you can find that set at Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories – Geno’s Garage If you dont plan on doing much to the truck I would look into something like the smarty jr or the superchips flashpaq. If you are looking to make some big power later on down the road I would look into the smarty sr, ppe hot, or my favorite the triple dog loaded with scarry larry. any of these last three programmers can be turned down to lower levels until you are ready to really make your truck move.

I know that dieselmanor sells the three gauge pod that goes under the cd player. Or if your looking for something adjustable on the fly that comes with gauges built in, i know for a fact that a hot edge is awesome on an 05.

I'd get the edge juice or bullydog with outlook both have moniters and would probably fit your needs better then a Smarty or PPE

thnx for the replies everyone.... i think i might try out that edge juice/attitude, as ive heard lots of good stuff about it. and it comes with the monitor/gauges... i shouldnt run into tranny problems, if i just set it to level 5 every once in a while when needed/wanted, or mainly use level 2 or 3....(i wouldnt think of using the HOT level)
