The nv5600 has a cast iron case and the g56 is aluminum. I think the g56 is also geard a little lower and the reverse is in a different spot.

Not sure, Ive never had any trouble out of my 5600 but never had a g56 either. I do like the way my 5600 shifts better than the g56's. I have heard that parts are getting hard to find for nv's because they dont make'm any more but I would still rather have it over the g56.
