If you were looking at a 2500 or a 3500 (the non dually version), what are the biggest differences? I love my 2500...just wondering for my next truck.

Thanks,

Grey

Believe it or not, i asked the dealer the same question before i settles for my dually. 3 dealers said the same thing..." One Extra ADD-a-Leaf spring" and thats it...a total of a whopping 500 lbs. You can get a good set of air bags and have more than that on a 3/4 ton, and pay less.

i actually got my 3500srw cheaper than if i would have got a 2500. when i ordered my truck the cummins was standard on the 3500srw were it was an option on the 2500. i saved $2,000 and have a slightly heavier truck.

so you could goo swap the 3500 srw rear springs in on a 2500 rear end ?
spring perches and all the same as well ?

could be a nice mod if you tow heavy on a 2500 but dont want the six wheels.

I wish I still had my 2003 3500 srw with the Infinity sound system and auto tranny that was an awesome truck.

3500 srw auto or manual
equal to
2500 manual

2500 auto's have a smaller axle and less springs
Sorry, but it is the exact same axle on the 2500 and 3500 trucks if it has the CTD. If it's a dually axle its still the same axle with a different width. A 2500 Hemi gets the smaller rear axle. A Hemi 3500 gets the larger axle. Yes, a Hemi 3500 does exist.

you can get 4:10 or 3:73 gears in the 3500 and only 3:73 in the 2500 is what I was told. Then you have a higher Gvwr in the 3500.

All 04.5+ CTD's have the 11.5" rear, 03-04 SO's had the 10.5, and all HO's had the 11.5 on 2500's.

overload springs and the rear end.
Just overload springs.... Front springs and main springs are the same...

Even a dually has the same axle and springs as a SRW, which if you read between the lines means that on a SRW your GAWR is based on what your tires can handle, and on a DRW its what the axle can handle.

Well.. in your generation you couldn't get a SRW 3500... so this is really about 3rd gens... And yes you could get 4.10's on a 2500 with a NV5600, but not with the G56.. that may have changed with the new OD on the G56 but I am not 100% sure.

I got a 2500 w/ 4.10 gears. Right off the lot, no special order.

I was gonna say.........2nd gen DRWs had the option of a larger axle front/rear. At least I believe they did. Right?

Yep, there were some early 2nd gens 2500 LD with the D44 front option. There were 3 different rearend option for the 3rd gens. D60, D70, D80. D80 was a hybrid, with a D80 center section and D70hubs and axles.
