the barring tool got in a hole under the injectoin pump if im not mistaken

barring tool fits into a hole in the bellhousing and engages the teeth on the starter ring gear to turn the engine over.

Some people will just turn the engine by barring over the alternator or one of the small bolts on the balancer, just be careful, its easy to snap those bolts!

I tried the altenator, but just spins the alt. pulley. Do you do anything special to get the alt. method to work???

What would you est. the cost of a shop doing the R&R of the pump??

You can only turn the engine one direction with the alternator.
So of a pain if you miss TDC and have to go all the way back around.
With a barring tool you can go both directions.

I made my own barring tool by welding an old starter motor gear to a socket.

15mm socket and rachet on the pulley from under neath cant remember if its the harmnic balancer or not that i use. works real easy
