I'm a dummy the thread title should say "first" section lol.

Planning my delete list, and I was just curious. What's in the pipe in the fat section right out of the manifold, in the start of the downpipe? I was thinking of starting my deletes at the downpipe's 3 bolt flange, but should I get rid of the downpipe too?

Thanks!

You need to start turbo down. I forget what its name is (DOC?) but it is another filter that can clog up and or it is a restriction.

If you are not replacing the whole exhaust system then get the Flow Pro down pipe and DPF delete kit. They are around 275.00 or so.

Its called a pre DOC. It filters the big part of the NOX to help and try reduce the load on the main DOC. The new navistar engines for 2010 are using this too. Remove the whole exhaust system and replace with a 5in flo pro. Its only 300 bucks and its the best route to go

So I was cleaning up the garage today and moving these exhaust parts around (downpipe with pre doc nox thingie, DPF and CAT) and I came to realize how darn heavy this crap is. That chit really adds a lot of weight to the truck. Hell, I still got the factory muffler and tailpipe in there and they alone weigh a ton.

Sorry for the rant -- kinda related. Just appreciating the deletes more and more...

Oh trust me I saw all that crap and first thought it must be 150lbs at least! Can't wait till it's gone.

Honestly -- It's a little unnerving doing all this stuff to brand new trucks but when you see how it drives just for daily driving, it's really worth it. I'm keeping everything I take off but I don't know for how long. You'll be happy when you delete your complete exhaust, stop the egr and run some sort of tuner. Those 3 things really make the biggest difference.

I want to check out that Donaldson when I visit for more MTB rides next year. I think that was one of the best vacations I have ever had. I had hands down the best MTB rides I have ever had and i got to check out a new to me but most beautiful part of the country and to top it off I got to meet up with you and check out your truck/shop and of course meet Mr Bullit! he is something else!

I got to watch Don explain shock valving while watching him take apart a set of Fox's for a customer and got to learn about how shocks work, Very cool!

Thanks Don:thumbsup:

Thanks guys!

No 5" for me. Too loud for this getting old guy!

Ordered a 4" Flo-Pro and a 40" long Donaldson straight through muffler to splice in.
:blues:
i really enjoy the exhaust being quiet now but could tolerate a bit louder. my 04.5 had a cat delete and a 34" donaldson. had a great sound but a bit louder than i would want now. would a 5" with muffler be louder than my previous 04 setup ? trying to pick the best setup as im ready to do my deletes

Ya you can leave on the first down pipe. Its just the pre-cat. You just have to remove the dpf/cat pipe. I made my own delete pipe and am using the stock exhaust muffler. Its 4in exhaust and a flow thru design. Its abit louder than stock.

Why you guys say to remove the first down pipe. There no fuel with the black maxx box, so how can that cat get damaged. I've run mine for over 7000 miles this way.

If your running twin CP's, bigger sticks and probably twins, yes then do it. For most of us, still wanting the warranty, you should leave as much of the truck stock. Saves the warranty hassel. A decent mechanic can tell if you been adjusting things from the factory.

I say remove it since any cat cat clog up. Ive seen the little bellows doc on the maxxforce7 clog up. Its just safe insurance to have a non restrictive exhaust system IMO. Doesnt matter how much stuff you leave on cause if they wanna void your warrenty they are going to anyways. Thats the risk i take with mods

I agree. I know it can clog based upon the amount of soot I'm putting out now that I've deleted the DPF.
