I found one local but price seems high to me seeing how he needs my hood as a trade in as well, on top of having to get it painted to match my truck.

No I liked the black on red. At least for now. $850 seems high I would price a dealer one and call for paint pricing. Probably wouldn't be much more plus you would keep your old hood to sell and make some money back.

There was one posted here locally on craigslist a while ago. They wanted $750. I really wanted it, and was ready to negotiate but we lost touch.

I've had 2 steel and 1 fiberglass aftermarket hoods, it's not about luck it's about having a decent paint guy.

Should I have said body guy instead, same thing. And that's exactly what they do. Sounds like you've never met a good one.

After market hoods seem to come down to price if its cheap it probably won't line up nice. My uncle probably has 1100 into his and it looks good.

by what filling your brand new hood with bondo? if so no thanks. I've had fiberglass hoods come with the corners broken off from shipment, to them using cheap fiberglass and not coated right and the paint "bubbles".

Well technically, painters are painters, body men are body men. In the shops I've worked in, they didn't do each others work. You don't want a guy that's been rolling in filler and grinding metal all day painting your car...

...or a guy that's been sniffing paint fumes all day doing your body work:rof

Anyhoo, you'll never get an aftermarket anything to fit as well as OEM, typically an OEM may need a little attention, mostly potential damage on hood corners from shipping. An aftermarket hood often needs a whole bunch of work; had to put a fiberglass hood on a Mustang Cobra once, holy crap what a pain in the butt that thing was:shock:

A new OEM SRT10 hood runs 800-1000. That's why mine doesn't have one, yet:hehe:

My guy does everything himself....I guess that'd be considered old school? That's how it was always done back in the day.

Op if you know how much a new one is, what was the point of your original question?
