I recently purchased my first diesel an 06 dodge 3500, it came with 5in turbo back,AFE airbox and a banks ram air intake. I bought the truck to tow our boat and was wondering what the next upgrade should be. Injectors or an ecm tunner. Any suggestions would be great. Also are the Edge products a good one to go with.

Edge makes some really good products. I ran the Edge with Attitude on my 03 Powerstroke loved it.

When I got my 06 I went with what my buddy had - TST Power Max CR with the R49 remote which was similar to the Edge/Attitude.

About two weeks ago I wanted to try something a little different so I purchased the Smarty. I should have went this route and just bought myself some gauges. I am running the moderate torque management and software #5 and the power is awesome. Go with the Smarty and get yourself some mechanical gauges and you will be very happy with the performance level. :thumbsup

If your just wanting MPG and towing performance,Quadzilla makes a nice tow box. If you think you will want more power down the road,the Edge products are good. The Quad Xzillaraider2 is nice with the ability to download tunes with the usb port , but won't be as much power as the Edge.
Smarty programmers are awesome,but you have no change on the fly .

Thanks guys for all the info. So smarty or smary JR?? also what are the best gauges to buy? and who to buy them from? The edge with attitude comes with the monitor so gauges would not be needed?? Sorry for all the questions, just want to spend the money correctly.

Smarty JR is no trans mods are in your future. No point in paying for the higher files if you never plan to use them. If you are going to beef up the trans go with the full blown SMARTY Revolution. It is sweet as all heck and will blow your mind.

You can read about my truck in my signature, so I won't go into details about. I bought the bullydog power pup and I have to say for picking it up under $300 I'm moderately satisfied.

I will back everyone up and say gauges are a must. If you're not afraid of driling your manifold, and boost shaft, then you can get a nice package of glowshift gauges (Trans temp, Exhaust gas temp (a MUST have if you're tuning), and a boot pressure gauge) with a pillar to mount them in for around or under $190. If you need someone to install them for you, add about 2 hours of labor at any shop.

The problem with the bullydog tuners is that you'll run really high EGT's when you're tuned up and pushing the truck. By itself, it can't program to defuel either. If you're just looking to play, this is a decent setup.

I'm looking to get rid of mine and go with the smarty though. I'm willing to sacrifice tuning on the fly for the over all performance and well managed tunes they offer. I'm a little harder on my ruck though. And if you're looking to play hard, definetely look into a trans upgrade. Most of these tuners will let you shred your stock tranny especially if you have an auto. eelout:
