A friend of mine has a common rail engine out of an 06 that he melted the #6 piston in. He doesn't have any use for it now so he offered to sell it to me for $500. It is a complete engine minus a few components, ie. no injectors or lines. Other than that it looks to be in tact. I am keeping the turbo and exhaust manifold. It still has the CP3 on it. What can I do with the block? The head looks fine, but probably needs to be decked to be on the safe side.
Any ideas?? Throw anything out there, just trying to utilize this if I can to make a little $$ to buy some more goodies for my pickup.

Buy it then part it out. Injector and lines will be HIGH DOLLAR !! Easily $1500 for injectors. $$. $5-800 for lines. The head should be worth $3-500. Block $600 as is. Easily fixed tho. Crank $200 rest components $400. Your making $$$$$$$ do a little leg work and you'll have funds for something else.

OP states no injectors or lines. That being said you could rebuild and sell as a long or short block. Look at total damage, then see how much a piston and sleeve installed would set you back. Either way you could make a bit of profit off of it.

Will a Common Rail 5.9 block swap in place of a 24 or 12 valve?
Use it as a 53 Block replacement.

:confused013: IDK, that was something I couldn't figure out as well. I don't think the 12V will swap out. But I think the block on the 24V 5.9 are the same. And thanks for the input GonOvr.

no, the head is different along with piston bowl design.

But what about the bare block?

Let's say you have a good running 53 Block but it's cracked and leaking coolant... Then you have this Common Rail block with it's melted piston.

Hone or sleeve the cylinder with the trashed piston and put all the parts from the 53 block into it... Crank, Pistons, Rods, Cam, etc. Throw the head that came off the 53 block on the Common Rail block.
