Once it get a little warmer outside i'll be doing the KDP on my truck. i figured that while i have all that stuff apart i might as well replace anything in there that should be replaced at 190,000 miles. should i do the front main seal? thermostat? harmonic balancer?

i'm not familiar with driving these trucks, but i thought the thermostat might be funky because even on the highway the temp gauge doesn't reach the middle of it's sweep. i also read that the harmonic balancer can go after a while and cause chatter with the manual gearbox.

thanks

When you install the new crankshaft seal, DO NOT oil it or the crankshaft on assembly. Make sure the crankshaft is clean and dry.

There's a coating of Teflon on the new seal that is intended to transfer to the crankshaft. Oiling the seal or the crankshaft will interfere with the Teflon function and the seal will ultimately leak.

There are two scribe marks on the damper, yes? I don't recall. I could dig one out I suppose.......If the rubber is sqeezing out from the two halves, it is bad. If that rubber is oil soaked.

Generally there are two scribe marks and they cannot be off register more than 1/8" I belive it is.

While you are performing the KDP operation, ask yourself how much time and $$$ do you have. I personally replace or clean everything that shows wear/tear and filth. I ramp up for a 2-3 day event and when it all comes together, I'm done.

Water pump
Belt
Belt Tensioner
Hoses
Thermostat
Flush cooling system

That is just a start......

Unless the damper is subjected to a blunt force trama, it will be fine at 190,000 miles.

Don't forget to inspect the oil pump and correct as needed. ;)
