how much craking would you consider hard to start? my truck start in about 2-3 sec (which is longer than it use to) and i have only seen light blue smoke once. it does kind of sound like it has chopy idle in the morning, compared to how it sounded in the summer. their is no white or black smoke and seems to run fine. is this normal since the weather is colder?

this is my first time owning a diesel, my truck has about 235,000 miles on the orginal injectors( i think, i have only had it for about 5 months). i have read a lot where most injectors start to fail at about 100,000 miles so i am tryin to be proavtive about it so l dont hurt my engine. thanks for the help

Sounds pretty normal to me. In the winter it is harder to start but 2-3 seconds is no big deal. Might want to run some injector cleaner through your next tank to help the injectors out some. Its more important on how the engine runs warm than when it is cold though.

Mine almost always takes 2-3 seconds...got it with 31K on it now and now it has 42K.

any programmer ever been on the truck?

run a rail pressure test:
at cold crank
at op. temp cruise at 2000 rpm

any diesel in your oil or is the dipstick level rising?
sign of leaking pintles or split FI body.

use only Baldwin PF7977 filters in the FF canister, best filtering specs on the market. get a 2 micron absolute filter water separator system on it, the sooner the better.
change fuel filters religiously

lots of stories on here of engines killed by lazy owners not changing FFs

must be an Ice Age hitting the SE, what's the temps in Ge?

warm balmy tropical wx here in Wa St. Pineapple Express, temps in 50s

i dont think it has ever had a programer on it, and i will check the oil in the morning thanks. i didn't think there was any thing really wrong but it never hurts to ask.

yea for us in NW ga its cold, we have had snow on the ground for about 3 days but its almost gone. i can remember the last time snow stuck this long. we only got about 1/2" of snow and the whole town shut down:confused013:

Mine cranks up fast, like 2nd or 3rd revolution. less than a second.
