My condenser was pretty much destroyed from climbing in and out of the engine compartment. All the top fins were bent overand the middle was kicked in from my toes on the bumper.

I used a fin comb to fix the fins and touched up with some black paint.

I then decided to prevent this problem from happening anymore. So I made this......

I got the piece of expanded steel from work, but Ive seen it around pretty cheap. I bent the top edge over 1 inch. I sandwiched the top edge between 2 2x4s and clamped them together with some big C-clamps. Thats how I bent the edge so straight.
Then I just sanded and painted it. Wrapped it in some of that cheap door trim from autozone.

I removed the factory condenser bolts and bolted the guard up with some new stainless screws.

I think for an hours worth of work and A few bucks this is an invaluable piece of protection. A replacement condenser is expensive!!

I Drove all weekend in town and on the freeway and have noticed no change in engine tempo at all, so its safe to say that it doesnt affect anything.

I think it looks killer also!!!!

bkjeffrey,
First, let me say:

Nice Job!

Hey, if it's not too much trouble, could you take a full frame grill picture of it with the hood closed?

What I mean to say is in the photo i'm looking for, the grill fills the photo up, so it's kinda close, probably about 3-5 feet away from the front of your truck, whatever works.

I'm just curious how it "Shows thru".

Kind of an accent thing. Got a few colors in mind...

BTW, Didn't know they made a "Fin Comb"! All these years, I've been using a toothpick!!

Anyone else notice how Clean his truck is?

Yeah that does look really good. I went the easier way and bought the Kilby condenser guard. I don't recall how much it was though. here's a couple of shots of it--

Well, its been on about a week or so and I havent seen any difference in temps at all. It still warms up slow, and runs at the same temps as before. So I guess were good to go.

Hey WILDCAT, Ill get some pics with the hood closed tomorrow for ya.
Dont let the clean looks fool ya. This truck gets dirty every weekend!!! I just wash the crap out of it, I use ALOT of WD-40 on everything to keep it nice and shiney, plus it helps keep the mud from sticking.

Ill be putting on my homemade airhorn this weekend:hyper: so Ill let you guys know if the gaurd does what its supposed to:thumbsup:thumbsup

I like it as well! Great job. I am going to have to do this sometime to mine. It would be easier if you would build them and sell them. LOL
