Depends on preference, mile expediency, synthetic or not etc. Some run Rotella, I run Amsoil. Easy seach can give you tons of information .
Case IH 15w40 all year round! Never had a problem

Valvoline Premium Blue® Diesel Engine Oil.
That's what Cummins recomends. It's full synthetic.
I've always ran rotella, never had an issue

Rotella T6...full synthetic and $20.00/gal at Walmart.
Whatever Dino oil that's on sale at Walmart.
Cummins doesn't only recommend synthetic nor a single brand. They don't sell Valvoline at my Cummins dealer.

Any major brand quality oil is fine. Just change the oil and sample if you choose. I always do just because it's easy and very good to know when you need it.

I agree synthetics are good but no way necessary in our engines.
whatever is on sale, oil is oil. Dont buy off on the marketing hype

Edit.
I guess it can be either. There's a premium blue synthetic and regular.

Cummins does endorse the use of valvoline blue, but by no menas do they ever state that you shouldnt use anything else
Rotella T6 5-40. I run that in my diesels as well as my Subaru. Great for turbo motors.
I always use the Valvoline premium blue. Been using it for years and it goes on sale quite often and you can usually pick up a case at a reasonable cost.

I might add that the brand of oil is not as important as the brand and type of filter being used. If your buying high priced oil but running it thru a fram or any type of filter like that then the money on the oil is pretty useless.

:agree2: COMPLETELY! For the most part oil is oil; a great filter will make more of a difference than brand of oil.

Used to run the Valvoline Blue in the old 01, then Valvoline Blue Synthetic in the old 05. The new 03 had one change of VB until I stumbled on 2gal jugs of Mystic Synthetic Blend for $25 ea!!!
my dad has ran DELO for years in his 97. Havnt seen anyone post on here yet that they run it in theirs. What's the best filter out there to keep the crap outta the oil?
Fram is at the VERY bottom of the list (if its even on there at all) :hehe:

I personally run the Baldwin...am able to get them locally for a good price. Amsoil bypass kits work well too.
