I seen that PDD uses a sxe369 as the big turbo in there compound setup, I imagine it spools real good but i wonder about the drive pressure and long term reliability. How would that turbo compare to a sxe472 or s475, I would think the s400 would spool a little slower but once it is spooled how would the egts compare, they flow more air but at between 1800-2300rpm will they spool up enough to flow the air to keep the egts down. 1400tq is the goal, dd/towing setup, small charger will be a 62/71vgt from DPS. I live in the smoky mountains so lots of steep hills.

No way I would run a s362 with an s369. They are too close in dimensions/ flow. An hx35 or he351 is a better fit for an s300 primary.

I would run the 62/71vgt as a single for a bit before you made compounds with it. I would like to know how well it works at low rpm with the vgt.

If you do go for compounds, you want the smallest primary that meets your needs reliably. I'd tend to stick towards the S472 with a 1.1 turbine and 83mm wheel if you want that thing to light sooner. It'll light easily and still give some room to grow. You can get away with a larger turbo and turbine housing combo and still have decent drivability, but it's not needed for a daily.

Personally, I'd avoid trying to make a fast spooling 1,400 lb-ft of torque for towing in the smokies. Been there, done that and got the T-shirt and the last of the couple built 47REs is still sitting in the garage as a reminder. The feel of the chassis twisting on command uphill is cool until you're on the side of Black Mountain waving at the Powerstrokes passing you by. 800-1,000 is more than enough. The 62mm alone can hold that torque value high enough in the RPM range to get that trailer moving without stressing the transmission as hard as a fast spooling setup.

This sounds serious! You have my attention. As both a 12v owner & the seemingly huge scope of the build.
I imagine with those numbers you have a laundry list of things done. Any pictures available?
Thanks
Transmission wont be a problem as ill be using an eaton fuller fso 8406. Highest rated sae 2 clutch i could easily find is 1400tq so thats where the number is from

Im just in the planing phase right now but when i start the build ill be sure to post all of the pictures. I really dont like having trans problems so the eaton is the obvious choice. The plan is for a total engine rebuild, 178 cam, ported heads and the whole 9 yards. Still dont know if i want arp 625s or just go 14mm head studs.

A Fummins with an Eaton! I am excited. I wish I could help you with the compound setup. I am not there yet.
I just dropped some (lots of) coins getting into my '22.
My '94 has a Goerend built & installed trans (I only desired 600whp so no dillet shafts etc), lots of 12v parts including 3k rpm & 60# valve springs, Thuren links & track bar, progressive spring lift on 35's... I have a rust free bed I need to put on after the rest of the rust is gone & then painted.
As much as I love the '22 my '94 still hold a huge amount of love!

I'd just stick with 12mm. 625's great but o-rings with regular arp's or opti-torques will hold up great.

So I now have a DPS VGT Ball Bearing over S475. Starts to spool around 1350rpm never had it hit over 1250 degrees pulling 14,000#’s. Over all some what happy but had a lot of problems and to do it over I would go a different route. Not sure what this set up is truly putting down but it ran a 12.2 @ 109mph and very best mpg has been 19hwy my boost gauge only goes to 60psi and it wraps way past that. It is really smoky no matter what setting on Smarty. Now what I had and loved was a single ATS AK3 (3000) it would spool at 1200 rpm dynode 525rwhp &1186Tq ran a 12.9 @ 102mph but it would hit 1500 degrees if you tried. I got 22+mpg hand calculated and hardly smoked at all and made about 45psi boost max. I really wish I would have used that 58/60/14 ATS turbo over a S475.

What problems did you have with the dps vgt
