Does the water come past the door seal?

yes I'm pretty sure, when I saw It leaking i noticed the bottom of the windshield weather stripping wasn't fully sealed - i could see a slight ga in the bottom corner closest to the hood, and i press down on it slightly

my driver side carpet was soaking wet after it’s been raining for the last week or so, any ideas where it can come from? it’s dry everywhere else. i can feel a little bit of wetness following the edge of the carpet in the backseat too. i read that the 3rd brake light gasket leaks, i got ordered a new one. the latch on my sliding door is also broken so i ordered a new one of those thinking it wasn’t tightly sealed. any other ideas?

Thrd light is a possibility, but there should be something in back too, loose door or window seal and hard wind blowing is good possibility. Fix the door latch.

the floor along the side of the doors is slightly damp in the backseat but in the front seat it’s soaking, so i don’t really feel like it’s coming from the back if only the front is really wet. is there a way i could test the window or door seal?

pulled the carpet back to try and dry it out. the bottom of my weather stripping is really torn but i don’t see how if the bottom was torn how it could make the carpet wet. also do the holes for the plastic floor board piece need some type of seal? they’re just holes drilled straight into the floor i would think they have some sort of seal

Couple of things. if the back door is loose, the front door is loose. Water does flow down hill to the front. If you have a gasket for the light install it. Obviously the lower part of the door seal is damaged, how is the top?
I would bet on wind and hard rain came in around the seal due to loose door latches, or maybe you left a widow down a bit. Hard wind and rain will push water through any loose or bad seal.

light seal is in the mail, the back door latches pretty solid, top of the weather seal isn’t cracked but it is old and original. my idea is that while i was driving water was being kicked up from the tire past that torn weather seal on the bottom.

no rust, im going to try to dry it out with some heat

another thing i noticed is that the bottom corner of the drivers door, that’s nearest to the fender, is slightly pushed in. i can see the the back edge of the fender if that makes sense. this makes me think the door isn’t aligned properly.

i can hear wind noise from above my head while i drive at highway speeds, the top driver door hinge is also worn pretty badly and the pin that the roller goes on is really rounded out. could this add on to the issue? water has never got in but i can see what you mean by wind pushing the seal.

also i purchased a new weather stripping on the body side, so that’s on the way. i zip tied the rear sliding window as tight as i could because it’s going to rain hard for about a week straight here in cali.. bad time for me to be trying to find this leak. maybe i could try to single out possible leak areas. tomorrow morning if it’s wet from rain still i could put a seam of RTV around the 3rd brake light while i wait for my gasket.

the sliding door on the back glass, there are two doors that slide away from each other, it opens to the bed

well i think i narrowed it down to either the 3rd brake light or the sliding rear window that goes to the truck bed.

pulled the plastic trim off and on the bottom side of the carpet in the backseat it was pretty wet. leads me to believe the water was getting from behind somewhere. id put my money on the sliding window because the wind and rain was hitting the back of my truck. i backed her into our barn so the wind shouldn’t directly hit it now.

what’s the best way to dry out the carpet so i don’t get rust or mold? i would rather not pull the entire carpet out because id have to pull out all the seats..

Either one or both. We call the "sliding rear window" not a door. I suppose the latch is broken? Try an auto glass shop and see if they can get and install a new latch. Or jerry rig something your self. Put in the light gasket and add a light coat of silicone if you like.

i zip tied it shut, replacement amazon latch is in the mail, so is 3rd light gasket. and i already bought new weather stripping.. oh well can't hurt. how can i dry the carpet out without removing everything?

well after spending about 3 days drying out my carpet. it rained again. carpet is slightly wet this time. not soaking. i zip tied the rear window so i’m pretty sure that was a big source of the rain. i tightened it as much as i could, i wonder if squeezing the rubber too hard together would still let water get though, kinda like tightening a gasket too hard.

while i’m gonna spend another day or two with a heater drying out the carpet my cab-to-door seal came in along with my 3rd brake light gasket. i just replaced both of them. i will say that the drivers door closes nicer. and the old 3rd brake light gasket was very thin and worn.

in the middle of the 3rd brake light gasket i can still see a slight gap at the top. should i give it a line of black RTV? or a different type of sealant. caulking maybe?
