I have been in the process of designing a water cooling system for cooling down the VP44's computer. I plan on this design to act as a heat sink to pull heat away from the computer. I am aware that the fuel cools the computer down! The reason why I am planning a water cooling system is because I want to pull heat from the computer while the engine is off and under hood temps are high. Once the computer temp reaches a lower tempature the pump will shut off and the heatsink would be complete. The purpose for this system it to make the VP44 electronics last longer by reducing heat cycles. The system would intel a water pump, ECU water block, cooling fan/radiator and, water tank.

Sounds like a good idea but what effect would the water have on the electronics vs the diesel. I was thinking of a fuel cooler simple design

I would highly recommend that you call Chip at Blue Chip Diesel. I believe he tried this and gave up. I dont remember why but he can tell you. He has spent a lot of time and money trying to eliminate vp failures and from what i hear he is more than happy to talk to you.

The old 6.5 diesel that I had in my old chevy were plagued with these same kind of under-hood heat issues to the injection pump's computer or the PMD. Somebody developed a relocation kit for it which moved it from the high temp stock location and came with a heat sink ribbed bracket to relocate it. Worked like a charm after I replaced the PMD the first time. Never had another problem with it.

I admire your creativity with the whole water cooling idea. Hope it works out!

Theres a thread around here where the guy routed a fresh air tube(like a household aluminium dryer flex tube) from the front grill, dumping fresh air to the VP44. Not really sure if anything is gained from this though. But 2-cycle on the other hand is a proven lubricant, hey you can hear the difference!
